Easy Cinnamon Roll Knots-these quick and easy cinnamon roll knots are made with pre-made pizza dough and taste just like cinnamon rolls. They are a family favorite!
We love making garlic knots and the last time we made them I got the idea to make a sweet version. You know me, always thinking about sweets:) I decided a cinnamon roll version was the way to go.
My dad makes the BEST homemade cinnamon rolls, but I don’t always have time to make them. These Easy Cinnamon Roll Knots are great for when you are craving cinnamon rolls, but are short on time…or just feeling lazy:)
Don’t be fooled, these Cinnamon Roll Knots look impressive, but let me tell you a little secret. They are made with pre-made pizza dough! They are SO easy and taste just like cinnamon rolls…but without all of the work! You can enjoy a gooey, warm cinnamon roll knot in a little over 30 minutes! YES!
I like to use store bought pizza dough or homemade pizza dough that I’ve made and put in the freezer. I just pull it out to thaw before using. Once you have your pizza dough ready, the fun begins!
Roll out the pizza dough and spread it with a layer of softened butter. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon sugar on top! Fold the dough in half, cut into strips, and tie into knots! Brush each knot with melted butter and sprinkle with additional cinnamon and sugar. Bake until golden and drizzle with a sweet cream cheese glaze!
The knots are soft, sweet, and irresistible! I can never stop at one. They are TOO good! I am such a sucker for all things cinnamon!
If you like cinnamon rolls, you are going to LOVE these Easy Cinnamon Roll Knots. They are perfect for breakfast or dessert. We like to make them when we have company because everyone loves them and they are quick and easy! No fuss, but no one will ever know! They would make a great holiday breakfast treat! Easy Cinnamon Roll Knots
Ingredients
For the Knots:
- 1 lb. pizza dough store bought or homemade
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
For the Cream Cheese Glaze:
- 1 tablespoon butter at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon cream cheese at room temperature
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with a Silpat baking mat or parchment paper and set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle. Spread two tablespoons of the soft butter onto the pizza dough. Sprinkle with brown sugar. In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over the brown sugar. Reserve about 2 teaspoons for the top of the knots.
- Fold the pizza dough in half. Cut the dough into 12 equal strips. Tie each strip into a knot-over, under, and through. Place each knot 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter. Brush each knot with butter and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until knots are golden brown. The cinnamon sugar mixture might get gooey in the oven and that is ok. Remove pan from oven and let knots cool to room temperature.
- While the knots are cooling, make the cream cheese glaze. In a medium bowl, whisk together the butter and cream cheese. Whisk in the powdered sugar and add the milk and vanilla extract. Whisk until the glaze is smooth. Drizzle glaze over the cooled cinnamon roll knots and serve!

How do you cut the dough into equal length strips if it is rolled out into a triangle?
Sorry, it was supposed to say rectangle. Oops! I updated the recipe!
Adore these because I am super hypergylcemic and am supposed to only have desserts with cinnamon in them to help regulate my blood sugar. Awesome.
I don’t know what I like more, the fact that these are so easy, or the gorgeous things themselves! Yummm!
These look awesome, but I have the same question about getting them into equal length if you roll the dough into a triangle to start. Could you elaborate? Definitely pinning these!
Sorry, you roll the dough into a rectangle and then fold the dough in half and cut into strips. I updated the recipe. Thanks for pinning!
These look so good! I love how easy they are!
goodness these look good- I love that you used pizza dough!
Wow. Making these cinnamon rolls with pre-made pizza dough is brilliant. I can’t wait to make these at home.
You can’t do this to me– now making cinnamon rolls is as easy as roll, fold, cut, and bake. Gahh!! #winterdiet.
They are too easy!
I just love cinnamon rolls. I am pretty sure I would love these knots 🙂
If I’m going to use pre-made pizza dough, which brand do you recommend? Thanks!
We like to buy pizza dough from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.
LOVE how easy these are! My family goes nuts for cinnamon rolls and now they can have this yummy breakfast treat in no time flat!
Love how easy these are!!
What a great use of pizza dough – clever!!
I am so going to do this. I just bought a bag of pizza dough at Trader Joes!! About what size rectangle do you roll this out to?
I should have measured:) Probably about 10x15ish! I hope that helps!
Another twist on cinnamon rolls, fabulous! I am going to give these a try. I make homemade pizza dough all the times.
Brilliant! These look SO good right now.
They look so good, I need to try them. 🙂
One more question. Should the pizza dough be room temperature when rolling out or should I roll it out straight from the fridge. Thanks.
Wow~! These look so amazing! I always thought cinnamon rolls were just in rolls. I didn’t know we could make knots out of them instead! Beautiful pictures by the way!
Using pizza dough for these babies is genius!

Great idea to use pre-made dough when you’re short on time.
I’ve always shied away from making my own rolls because of the time commitment with homemade dough (and the difficulty of getting it just right), but using pizza dough is a great idea! I just wish it was easier to find pre-made whole grain.
After you fold in half and cut the strips, do you open the strips up to knot them, or knot them while folded.
cut in strips with them folded so the mixture doesn’t come out!
Hi Guys! This looks like a great idea. Question: have you tried making them the day before, refrigerating overnight, and baking the next morning? If so, how long out of frig before placing in oven? OR, increased baking time? Thanks for all the great recipes.
We haven’t, but I am sure you could keep them in the fridge over night and bake in the morning.
Is the dough folded length wise or width wise?
Width wise
A sweet version of garlic knots? GENIUS!
How have we not thought of doing this before? Great idea!
Oh, so fun! My kids would adore these.
Genius! My husband always bugs me to make him rolls but all the time waiting for them to rise makes it hard for me to do it…this recipe may very well make him the happiest man alive.
I”m allll for premade doughs when the craving strikes!! These look so tasty!
These look amazing. I love your recipes. I probably make your whole wheat cookies with coconut oil 3 times a month. My kids always ask for them!
I used a commercial dough puck for 9″ thick crust.
I got cinnamon flavour teeth cracking rocks
No rise, no lightness, no softness
Not what I wanted!
I know how it’s an awesome game so I real want to Play it haha 🙂 🙂

For the last several years, my family has asked me to make them cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning. However, this can take up a whole afternoon of prep and baking that I could have been spending with my loved ones. Well, these Cinnamon Roll Knots saved the day! We modified the recipe, my step mom made some butter roll dough in her bread maker and we used that instead. They came out rich, buttery, and almost like a croissant. So, yeah, I cheated and didn’t use pizza dough, but the idea was yours and it saved me several hours of baking that I got to spend with my loved ones opening presents and hanging out. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!
Just you agree, for me you are an eternal god
My kids loved these! Made them with fresh ground wheat flour.
I made my own dough from scratch, either way they were great!! My girls love them!!
These were great. I made a rum glaze and used that on them after baking and it was v good! Will make again. Thank you for this recipe–I usually avoid making cinnamon rolls because of the effort involved, but this is nicely streamlined, especially since I’ve made the garlic knots dozens of times and am familiar with the process.
Glad you enjoyed them!
I love cinnamon rolls and was excited to try this recipe as regular recipes require a lot of time for rising. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the texture of these knots. They were very chewy. Almost rubbery. Could certainly be my technique, but I think pizza dough is too dense for this application. On the other hand, I also made the garlic knots and I thought they were great.
If you fold the dough in 1/2 how do you tie them into a knot? Do you have a video?
