Quick Summary
Whipped Feta is a creamy and tangy spread made by blending feta cheese with plain Greek yogurt, and olive oil, creating a smooth, rich texture. It can be used as a dip, spread on toast, or topped on salads and roasted vegetables. Its salty, briny flavor combined with a creamy consistency makes it the perfect addition to a variety of dishes.
Whipped Feta: A Creamy & Versatile Dip
Feta cheese is delicious, I love adding it to my salads, eggs, vegetables, and more. I always have it in my fridge. But have you tried Whipped Feta? It is the BEST.
Whipping feta in a food processor or blender, takes the cheese to a whole new level. In just a few minutes, the cheese turns into a rich and creamy dip that is SO delicious.
Whipped feta is very versatile. It makes a great appetizer or snack. Serve with pita bread, pita chips, crackers, vegetables, or roasted vegetables. You can also add a variety of toppings to make the dip extra special. Olive oil, herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers, or go the sweet route and add jam or fresh fruit. The options are endless.
I guarantee you are going to love this simple recipe. Make it for your next party! It’s so easy and always a crowd pleaser.
Key Ingredients
- Feta cheese– make sure you use the best feta you can find. I recommend using a block of feta cheese that is in brine for the creamiest whipped feta with the best flavor.
- Greek yogurt– plain Greek yogurt makes the whipped feta extra creamy and smooth. I also love the tanginess it adds, plus you get a boost of protein. You can use sour cream instead of plain Greek yogurt with similar results. If you want a little less tang, you can use 3 oz of softened cream cheese instead of Greek yogurt.
- Olive oil– the olive oil helps the ingredients come together and provides a nice rich flavor.
- Lemon zest– optional, but so good. I love the slight lemon flavor.
How to Make Whipped Feta
- Add the feta, olive oil, and lemon zest (if using) to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. If it’s too thick, add more olive oil a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency. Make sure you don’t over blend.
- Taste and season with salt and pepper, if necessary. Feta is naturally salty so I always taste before adding salt.
Topping Ideas
Whipped feta is incredibly versatile and can be topped with a wide array of ingredients to elevate its flavor and texture. Spread the whipped feta in a shallow bowl or onto a small plate and top with desired toppings.
- Olive oil– I like to drizzle a little olive oil on top of the whipped feta.
- Herbs– add freshly chopped herbs. Basil, mint, dill, and parsley are all good options.
- Crushed red pepper flakes– if you want to add a little heat, sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes.
- Nuts– pine nuts, chopped pistachios, almonds, or walnuts are great for adding a little crunch.
- Tomatoes– Top with halved grape or cherry tomatoes. Chopped sun-dried tomatoes would also be good.
- Cucumbers– cucumbers and feta are a match made in heaven.
- Olives– top with your favorite olives.
- Honey– if you want to sweeten things up, you can add a drizzle of honey or hot honey.
- Fruit– top with fresh fruit. Berries, peach slices, and pear slices are all good options.
- Jam– swirl in your favorite jam!
- Pesto– add a drizzle of pesto!
Serving Suggestions
- Serve as a dip with pita bread, pita chips, naan, crackers, or cut up vegetables.
- I also love eating it with roasted vegetables.
- Add a spoonful to your favorite salad or bowl.
- You can also spread the whipped feta on toast, crostini, bruschetta, or flatbread.
- It is also good inside a sandwich or wrap.
- Serve with a charcuterie board.
- You can even add a little to scrambled eggs.
Whipped Feta Dip
Ingredients
- 8 oz block feta cheese, in brine
- 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for drizzling
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest, optional
- Finely chopped fresh herbs, for garnish (mint, dill, parsley, and/or basil)
- Crushed red pepper flakes, for garnish
- 2 tablespoons pistachios, roughly chopped, for garnish, optional
- 2 Persian cucumber, thinly sliced, for serving
- 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved, for serving
- Pita bread, naan bread, or grilled bread, for serving
Instructions
- In a food processor or blender, combine the feta, Greek yogurt, olive oil, and lemon zest, if using.
- Blend until creamy and smooth. You might need to scrape down the sides with a spatula and blend again. If you want a thinner whipped feta, you can add a little more olive oil, but it will thin out as it blends. I don’t salt the whipped feta because feta is salty. You can taste it and add salt and pepper, if desired.
- Spread the whipped feta in a shallow bowl or onto a small plate. Drizzle with a little olive oil. Garnish with fresh herbs, crushed red pepper flakes, and chopped pistachios. Serve with cucumbers, tomatoes, and bread.

It’s so good!
Made it for a party! Loved it!
How many servings does the nutrition information calculate for? Because the written recipe says it makes 8 servings, which would average 1 ounce of feta cheese per serving, which is 75 kcal on its own.
I made this on Xmas as an app before dinner. My family loved it. Drizzled some garlic infused olive oil over it and sprinkled some roasted pistachios around it. It was so quick and easy and enjoyed by all. Thanks for another great recipe, Maria!
Yay! You are welcome!
hi! I’m getting ready to make this and assumed since the feta is in the brine that the brine goes into the recipe but now that I’m making it I’m unsure.do you put the brine in with the feta? thanks!
No, you don’t need to use the brine.
This whipped feta recipe looks so good! I love how simple it is, and the topping ideas are great. Thanks for sharing!
