Spinach Artichoke Pesto Pizza
Updated October 06, 2020
Remember the Spinach Basil Pesto recipe we posted on Monday? Well, we used that pesto to make the most amazing pizza ever-Spinach Artichoke Pesto Pizza. I am head over heels in love with this pizza. I loved it so much that I told Josh we could have pizza every day for dinner, if it was Spinach Artichoke Pesto Pizza. He said he was game! We both loved this pizza! And guess what? So did our little pea! This pizza was a hit all around!
To make the pizza, start with your favorite pizza dough. We love our homemade pizza dough recipe, but if we are short on time we like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods refrigerated pizza doughs. They are great options if you are in a pinch! We used our Nut-Free Spinach Basil Pesto for the pizza sauce. We spread it evenly on the dough. I love the green sauce!
Next, we topped the pizza with chopped fresh spinach, artichokes, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.
We baked the pizza until the cheese was melted and the crust was golden brown.
The perfect pie! Josh cut the pizza into slices and we had a family pizza party! Caleb kept asking for more! I am glad my guys loved this veggie pizza as much as I did!
I really can’t express enough love for this Spinach Artichoke Pesto Pizza. It is seriously one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten…and I’ve had a lot of pizza in my days. Make it, eat it, love it!
Spinach Artichoke Pesto Pizza
Ingredients
- 1-16 ounce pizza dough homemade or store-bought
- 1/2 cup Spinach Basil Pesto or your favorite pesto
- 1 cup chopped spinach
- 1 cup chopped artichoke hearts use jarred or canned and drain them
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
- Place the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into a circle. Carefully move the pizza dough to a pizza pan or pizza stone. Spread the pizza evenly with pesto. Top with spinach, artichokes, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.
- Place the pizza in the hot oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until pizza crust is golden and cheese is melted. Remove the pizza from the oven and let the pizza cool for a few minute. Cut into slices and serve.
- Note: If we don't have time to make homemade pizza dough we like to use Trader Joe's or Whole Foods refrigerated pizza dough. You can make this pizza gluten-free by using gluten-free pizza dough.

What a splendid pizza! I love that choice of toppings.
Cheers,

I love spinach & artichoke dip! So good! And with pesto, on a pizza, great idea! Pinned!
Oh my word this looks incredible! We don’t usually get fresh artichokes in supermarkets here in the UK but hopefully I’ll be able to find a jar of artichoke hearts, because I must make this!
We used jarred artichokes! I updated the recipe in case there was confusion!
I’m a huge pizza lover, but not all pizzas meet my taste, especially when they are loaded with cheese and too many ingredients. This is right up my alley, you get carbs but also all the good things from veggies. Mozzarella is a magic touch!
Some of my Josh’s favorite ingredients too! Artichoke is just delicious on pizza!
This pizza looks delicious!! I think I could definitely do this for dinner every night too!
Dang, I can totally see why this is a fav! YUM!
What a great flavor combination for pizza! Love it and the pesto, yes please!!
I pretty much crave pizza 24/7 and now I want this for breakfast!
Just posted pizza today too! I guess it’s pizza wednesday! Loving the flavor combos and it pizza so that is just awesome!
Most beautiful pizza ever!!
Such a great use for that yummy pesto!
What a fabulous looking pie!
I never tire of the spinach and artichoke combo and a spinach pesto pizza is a great way to enjoy it!
Looks so yummy!!!!
absolutely LOVE this combination, maria!! this pizza look so good!!
I’m such a pizza lover and this sounds like the most amazing pizza ever! I can’t wait to try it out! Pinned! 🙂
Thank you!
We love pesto on pizza and the addition of artichokes sounds absolutely amazing!
Uuuuuuuummmmmmmmm yeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh.
Heck yesss! looks like we both have pesto on the brain! sounds AHHHHmazing Maria!
Love everything about this one.
Really, really beautiful Maria! I want the whole thing to myself!
What a gorgeous pizza! Want!
Maria,
You take such wonderful photos–when are you going to do a behind-the-scenes tutorial? I make pizza every Friday night, but never do I get light like you have. Simply gorgeous.
The pizza ingredients? I bet the combo is just right–it’s always nice when my kids like my veggie pizzas.
Thanks!
Thanks so much! I will have to work on a behind the scenes post:)
I could take down this whole pizza by myself! Yes please 😉
My FAVORITE pizza!!! YUMMY! Thanks for sharing!!!
Now this is my kind of pizza! xoxo
I love this alternative to the usual pizza recipe. Big lover of pesto here!
Want. Need. Love!
Mmmmmm. Now this is a must try pizza!
We make tons of pizza at home because we have a wood burning brick oven in our back yard, but I always add my pesto on after the pizza (or pasta-if making a pesto based dish) cooks because they say the basil will burn. Yours turned out ok I guess though because it looks great!
We didn’t have any trouble with the pesto burning.
I’ve got spinach and artichokes on the brain lately after a grilled cheese I made with the two…this pizza sounds like the perfect continuation of that craving!
Oh, my! You are putting ideas in my head for dinner!
I am not very savvy when it comes to fresh artichoke. Do you steam it first and then just use the artichoke heart? Sometimes I will steam it and it’s bitter and/or tough. Sigh
We use jarred or canned artichoke hearts. I updated the recipe. Sorry for any confusion! Just drain them and chop them up!
How could anyone not like these amazing flavors? Total flavor combo gold medal winner!!
Yum, enough said. Thanks for sharing the recipe! Have a great day. ~~ Sharon & Denise
This looks ridiculous! My husband will LOVE it!
This is definitely my kind of pizza! I used to work in a bakery that had an Italian brick pizza oven in it (random addition, I know) and on Fridays we’d make pizzas. And the one I’d always make for myself to take home would be just like this! Pesto, spinach, artichokes, garlic…perfect! Oh that sounds SO good right now!
This is MY kind of pizza! And we must be thinking alike, as I posted a recipe with pesto in it today as well:)
This is my kind of pizza — lots of pesto, spinach, cheese, and artichoke is probably my favorite part! Looks delicious!
My husband is more of a traditional red sauce and meat kind of guy when it comes to pizza. But this – he would love. He is a fan of anything with spinach and artichokes together!
Oh, wow! I could eat Spinach Artichoke Dip by the bowlful! On a pizza? Lord, help me! What a fabulous veggie pizza, Maria! Such gorgeous, inviting food photography as well. 🙂 Pinning to group boards at Pinterest! xo
I love the flavors in this summery, scrumptious pizza! It looks so delicious!
We just bought some canned artichokes the other day and I’ve got a few lbs of pizza dough in the fridge. I am so going to make this very very soon!
This is my favorite kind of pizza! It looks so good!
Absolutely love this pizza, great flavors!
I know I will love this pizza. I can’t wait to make it. Thanks for sharing. I have homemade pizza dough in the freezer.
This pizza looks like pure bliss. Yes. Yes, it does.
Yummo! Can’t wait to try this. And I can’t wait to make a batch of the spinach. That will prove to be quite popular in my house.

We love the dip. I’m sure we’d love the pizza. Fun idea!
I adore a creamy pizza smothered in greens. You nailed it, Maria.
Love the look of this, will have to find time to try it out!
Seriously drooling here. This pizza has my mouth watering Maria!
I am loving this, Maria! I’m going to have to try it out on our next pizza night.
Beautiful pizza! Love the topping choices. I love spinach and artichoke. Love to try it one day.
That looks absolutely gorgeous, Maria, and sounds delicious! I’m putting this on the must make soon list! <3
This is a refreshing pizza, a nice departure from the meat and cheese kind. Artichokes are only available in upmarket gourmet stores here, so perhaps I may consider substituting with bamboo shoots…
I want this super bad!
Any pizza with pesto is a pizza for me, but then you went and put artichokes on it and I went all weak in the knees. Artichokes are one of those things I can just never seem to say no to. I love them.
This looks soooo good! I just made Pesto in the last week too, a walnut basil version which I love! Here is another great way to use it! 🙂
Maria and Josh, one word sums up my thoughts here…delicious!
What a wonderful idea this pizza is. Instead of making spinach artichoke dip and have to worry about scooping it up, we have it all in pizza form.
This is so quick and easy to make too!
Not only will I be trying this in the next day or two but I have a feeling that it will be making it to the table on a regular basis.
I am all for every day being pizza day so please feel free to share more ideas. What other dips would make for great pizzas?
just tried this for dinner with the spinach basil pesto. yum!!!
This looks amazing and I’m sure it’s incredibly yummy. Thanks so much for sharing. xo
Thanks for sharing this recipe! I can’t wait to make it…I was looking for something different and full of flavor.
This is seriously the best pizza I ever made. The pesto sauce is OUTSTANDING as well. This I will make over and over!
This looks so amazing, I am making it tomorrow night! If you love spinach, try this eggs florentine recipe too!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is so delicious! I was looking for a “gourmet” type pizza to serve for guests along with the “traditional” kind and this was exactly what I needed! Admittedly, this was a bit of a “stretch” for me–I’ve never ventured this far off of the traditional route for pizza. I also made your Spinach Basil Pesto which was totally amazing! Even my husband who completely shrivles up at the sight of anything green tried this pizza and had seconds! (Believe me, for my husband to have seconds on something green is totally unheard of!) Thanks again!
Your Spinach Artichoke Pesto pizza looks so unusual! I’ll have to try it some time though. Thanks for the recipe!
This looks great – I love the great look of the green sauce too. I love pesto but I have never used it on a pizza before. Next time we have pizza (probably very soon) I am going to give this a try – thanks for sharing a great idea!
I made this the same day as coming across it on your Facebook. My husband and I are in love with this pizza. It outdoes all of our normal tomato sauced veggie pizzas!
That crust looks absolutely heavenly and perfect! Do you mind sharing what you bake it on? We currently have a pizza stone, but the center of the crust never seems to get crispy!
love all of your recipes (first time commenting!); would you rinse the artichokes or just drain them? probably a stupid question sorry!
Amazing!! My husband and I loved it. I’m very new to cooking and loved how simple this recipe was. we used the extra pesto for an avocado chip dip which we took to a family gathering, everyone loved it and wanted the recipe.
Thanks!
Yay! This was a hit with my 10, 8, and 6 year olds ! Such a great alternative the our typical red sauce pizza – we were trying to branch out and it worked. Thank you, thank you!
I made the pesto, which I love. The pizza recipe was great and will be a regular go to! Kids wouldn’t eat it, but both parents gave it two thumbs up.
Just spotted on Pinterest & totally making this tonight. Luckily I have ingredients on hand and it sounds delish
Enjoy!
We don’t make our own pizza dough but this is a fast weeknight meal we love! Have made several times. Keep the pesto in the freezer ready when needed and meal comes together very easily! This week we had the pizza with tomato soup and it was fantastic.
This looks great! Do you find that using fresh spinach causes the pizza to be watery at all?
No! I love fresh spinach on pizza!
Let me start by saying your site is just amazing! I recently went vegetarian and I’ve been making a few recipes each week from your 31 days of meatless recipes and I have yet to try one I haven’t absolutely loved! The Greek tortellini salad, sweet potato salad, quinoa vegetable soup…they are all to die for! I made this pizza tonight and had to keep telling myself that NO, I do NOT need another piece! It was absolutely delicious! You are making my transition to vegetarian so easy and for that, I genuinely thank you!
I am so glad you are enjoying our vegetarian recipes!
Love the combination of flavors in this with marinated artichoke hearts and a flavorful pesto. Thanks so much for the great recipe!
You are welcome!
Made this tonight for guests on individual pieces of naan bread from Costco! Added bacon and sliced cherry tomatoes and let everyone make their own. It was delicious! I would definitely make it again. Thank you from Montana
I am definitely forwarding this to my parents for our family pizza night on Friday!
Such a lovely recipe! And you make it look so simple. Can’t wait to try it this weekend!
Has anyone tried this with a spinach crust to cut down on carbs? We
I made the pizza dough (had never done pizza dough or yeast before), I made the pesto and the whole thing was delicious. The family loved it so it will certainly be a recipe that will be repeated many times. Thanks for another great recipe!
Oh so good! This was my first time making pizza at home, and I’m so impressed with this recipe. I followed the pizza dough and pesto recipes as well, and boy was it worth it! Honestly can’t believe that I made this pizza lol! Never ordering out again!
Has anyone tried this with traditional red pizza sauce?
I make this Keto and it is a huge favorite around here. I use the Fathead pizza crust with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. I use my homemade basil pesto and I add sliced Greek olives to the topping. It is wonderful!
Fantastic recipe! I was worried my dry fresh spinach would burn so I put it under the cheese. My whole family lived it
We love this pizza! Tonight I’m going to add sliced portabellas
What a great pizza! I veganized it and the pesto with Follow Your Heart “parmesan” and Simple Truth (Kroger) “mozzarella”. Wow!!
Thank you for this recipe. I haven’t had anything like this since I went gluten free. I saw some GF cauliflower based pizza crusts in Winco the other day so I grabbed them and bought what I thought I needed to replicate the Belmont Special that a long-gone local pizza place used to make. Then I came home & looked up this recipe. Very similar BUT I didn’t have spinach and this pizza I remembered had brie cheese. (We called it the Green Grease Special because it was very rich!) I made this WITH brie cheese and sliced tomatoes added, sans the spinach, with fresh pesto from Trader Joes and my GF crusts. Absolute HEAVEN!! Only thing I would change is I’d bake it about 3 min less since the crusts were pre-baked so they got a little crunchy around the edges.
Very good recipe. I used my homemade pesto made with sweet basil from the garden. Added the small mozzarella balls and sun dried tomatoes. It was a family favorite.
Yum!! Simple, healthy and delicious. A new go to pizza for me 😀
My favorite!
