Tomorrow is a big day! It is my 29th birthday and World Nutella Day. I feel very special that they chose my birthday to honor one of my favorite treats…ha! I believe in celebrating birthdays all weekend long, so let’s get this party started! We are kicking off the celebration with Chocolate Nutella Cookies.

Chocolate Nutella Cookie Recipe on twopeasandtheirpod.com LOVE these cookies! They are divine!

These chocolate cookies might look plain and simple, but I promise they are very special. I added Nutella to the dough and I think that was the best decision I have ever made. (Marrying Josh really was the best decision I have ever made, but this is a close second.) These cookies are soft, fudgy, and irresistible. I told myself I was only going to have a taste to make sure they were good enough to post, but that didn’t work out so well. Four cookies later I was positive these were post worthy.

Celebrate World Nutella Day and bake a batch of Chocolate Nutella Cookies. If you are a Nutella and chocolate lover these cookies are going to become a delicious addiction. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • 1. Whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, and cocoa, set aside. In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the butter and sugars. Beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about two minutes. Add the vanilla and hazelnut extract and beat until extracts disappear. Add the Nutella and mix until batter is smooth.
  • 2. Add the flour mixture in 2 batches, alternately with the milk in one batch, mixing well. Chill dough for at least 15 minutes before baking. You can make the dough a few days in advance, just wrap it in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.
  • 3. When you are ready to bake the cookies, preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Take a tablespoon of cookie dough and roll it into a ball. Place on lined baking sheets and gently press down on the dough ball. Continue making dough balls until the cookie sheets are filled-leave two inches in between cookies.
  • 4. Bake cookies for 10-11 minutes or until soft, but starting to set. Remove cookies from the oven and let cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack and let cool completely.

  26. These look so wonderful !
I think one of the best signs of an amazing, soft, melt-in-you-mouth cookie is the cracks inside. And add Nutella to the dough, and you’ve got yourself a treat that is tempting beyond words !
I’m not one to use Nutella in my baking (in fact, no one in my family buys it to avoid late-night splurges on this adicting treat, haha), but this is actually quite inspiring; I think I’ll pick up a jar next time I’m grocery shopping with my mom; thank you for posting !
Hope you had a terrific birthday and World Nutella Day !!
And thank you so much for your nice comment on my blog, it really made me smile : )

  27. I hope you had a wonderful birthday, Maria! This is the perfect birthday treat + they look AMAZING!

  28. These look amazing!
I don’t have any hazelnut extract and don’t really want to get some just for these cookies… do you think they would work/taste as good with vanilla or even almond extract? Thanks!

  29. Maria I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Happy Be-lated! These cookies look like the perfect way to celebrate a birthday too! My husbands birthday was this weekend too! Great weekend to have a birthday with the Superbowl celebrations. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you had a fabulous birthday Maria!

  30. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was wonderful!

These cookies look divine! I think Nutella may be the greatest invention ever… ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for another fabulous cookie recipe to try!

  31. These cookies are an absolute win! They come together quickly and taste amazing. The texture is just perfect. I’ll be adding them to my cookie rotation for sure.

  32. I “discovered” Nutella while serving a mission in Italy. We would eat it on bread. I was so glad to come home and see that you could buy it in the US. I can’t wait to try these cookies!

  33. I made these and had a slight problem. I used a really strong cocoa powder which ended up completely overpowering the Nutella flavor. I tasted the dough and needed to add Nutella, so I doubled it, but you still couldn’t really taste it in the final product. The cookies were great but were just plain chocolate cookies. So, don’t use too strong of a cocoa powder!

  34. I made these cookies without hazelnut extract and they were delicious. I want to make them again WITH hazelnut extract. Does anyone know where I can find some? I’d prefer to go to a brick and mortar store than ordering online but am not sure where to start outside of my usual grocery stores. I’ve checked two of my local chains for hazelnut extract but they don’t carry it. Thanks!

  35. These were excellent even without the hazelnut extract! However, I couldn’t really taste the nutella without the extract. They were perfectly soft and chewy! I’m living in Thailand right now, but when I get back to the states I will be sure to find some Hazelnut Extract and making these quickly! Thanks again!

  36. I was really excited for this recipe since I love Nutella, but it actually wasn’t a big hit at my house. Good, but not great. I think the cocoa was too overpowering

  37. I was talked into making cookies for an upcoming company potluck and i’ve really been wanting to make nutella cookies since the first time i tasted it. Thank you so much for this recipe. These are HEAVEN and will go over great at my potluck, should they actually make it there.

  38. and another note…..i added chopped hazelnuts to mine as well, not a lot, just three or four on top of each cookie….that made them even better.

  39. I’d really like to try these out, but quick question: Would they be seriously lacking in flavor if I omitted the hazelnut extract? I imagine the extract gives them a little extra “umph” but there are no Whole Foods nearby.

  40. Oh dear, please ignore my last comment. My search through the other comments have answered my question! Sorry about that!

  41. Tried to bake these yesterday. I didn’t have hazelnut extract, but added extra Nutella. Didn’t come out like I hoped. My husband thought they were chocolate chocolate cookies, very fudge like in the middle. Yummy nonetheless. I will be trying to bake another holiday post soon. Keep the ideas coming, love your blog!

  42. I apparently copied the recipe incorrectly and wound up making them backwards, but they turned out great and were a huge hit at our family Christmas party. I used the back of a slotted spoon to press them down so it left a nice design on the top of each cookie. I couldn’t find hazelnut extract anywhere so I used black walnut extract instead but they came out very well. I also think I put more Nutella than I was supposed to use but they still worked out.

  43. I made these cookies yesterday to take to a girl’s night out. These are the BEST chocolate cookies, I have ever tasted! I added a cup of nestle’s dark chocolate chips to the batter and that just took them over the top. I was told that these cookies better make the Christmas Cookie list this year!! Thanks Maria, for wonderful keeper recipe!

  44. Where I live, we donยดt get hazelnut extract, can I substituted it for something else or forget about it?

  45. Hi,i made e cookies tdy, however the batter was too soft n e cookies spread out too much n it flattens..why is tt so? I add more flour to it but i hvnt baked e rest of it..can u store this batter in e fridge fr a few days? Thanks..

  46. hi, how many grams is 1/3 cup nutella. i couldn’t find it on the conversion apps. and this is my first time baking anything… please help… thanks!

  47. Only almost 2 years in the making, but worth the wait! These are amazingly perfect for ice cream sandwiches…..

  48. I wish my birthday was on World Nutella Day! But I won’t let that little fact inhibit me from sharing in these nutella cookies!

  49. I tried looking through the thread of comments to see if anyone used a substitute for hazelnut extract. Could you use almond or even vanillaย

  50. 4 stars
These just came from the oven and they are delicious. I did tweak the recipe slightly: I did not use hazelnut extract and it was just as good; and I reduced both sugars by half (1/4 cup each) because a full cup of sugar on top of all that Nutella seemed a bit much. These are still incredibly sweet (maybe the sugars could be further reduced?). I was also impatient to cook them and only refrigerated them for about 10 minutes prior to baking.

Mine did not spread like yours did, but they still are fudgy, chocolatey, and wonderful. The bonus is that I had all the ingredients on hand. Perfect cookie for when you need a quick chocolate fix.
