Why You’ll Love This Buffalo Chicken Dip
There’s a reason this dip is so popular: it’s a flavor explosion in every bite! The combination of tangy hot sauce, tender chicken, rich cream cheese, and gooey melted cheese is a winning formula. This dip is:
- Easy to make: With just a few simple ingredients, it’s quick and simple to prepare.
- Bold Flavor: The perfect balance of spicy Buffalo sauce and creamy goodness makes each bite irresistible and the melted cheese on top makes it even more delicious!
- Make in advance: You can prepare the dip a day in advance and store it in the fridge. Just bake it before serving for a warm, bubbly dip.
- Perfect for Any Occasion: It makes a great game day snack, party appetizer, or potluck dish, everyone devours this dip!
Key Ingredients
- Cooked Chicken : Shredded chicken is the star of the show. You can use rotisserie chicken for convenience or cook your own and shred it.
- Cream Cheese: This provides the creamy base that balances out the heat of the Buffalo sauce. Softened cream cheese is essential for easy mixing so don’t forget to sit it out on the counter for about one hour before you start making the dip!
- Buffalo Sauce: The key ingredient for that signature zesty, spicy flavor. Frank’s RedHot is a popular choice, but feel free to use your favorite brand.
- Plain Greek Yogurt: This adds creaminess, a bit of tang, and a boost of protein. Sour cream will also work.
- Shredded Cheese: I use a mix of shredded mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese for maximum flavor and melty goodness!
How to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a baking dish or cast iron skillet and set aside.
- Combine. In a large bowl, add the softened cream cheese, hot sauce, Greek yogurt, green onion, garlic powder, and onion powder. If you love the heat, go ahead and add extra hot sauce! Taste and adjust as necessary.
- Mix together. Use a spatula or large spoon to mix together until well combined.
- Add the cheese and chicken. Stir in ½ cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese and ½ cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Reserve the rest of the cheese for the top of the dip. Add the chicken. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste.
- Transfer dip to pan. Use a spatula to spread the dip into the prepared baking dish or skillet.
- Top with cheese. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the dip.
- Bake. Place in the oven and bake until the dip is warmed bubbly and the cheese is melted, this will take 20 to 25 minutes.
- Garnish. Remove the dip from the oven and top with green onion, crumbled blue cheese, and fresh parsley, if desired.
How to Make the Dip in a Slow Cooker
Buffalo Chicken Dip can be made in a slow cooker, and it’s a great option if you want a hands-off cooking method or need to keep the dip warm for a longer period at a party or gathering.
- Add Ingredients to Slow Cooker (except for garnishes) and mix well until everything is evenly combined.
- Cook on Low: Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours, or until the dip is hot and bubbly, stirring occasionally.
- Stir and Serve: Once everything is melted and the dip is creamy, give it a good stir to combine any cheese that might have settled.
- Keep on Warm: After it’s done cooking, you can keep the dip on the “warm” setting of the slow cooker if you’re serving it over a long period (great for parties or gatherings). Make sure to stir the dip frequently! so it doesn’t burn on the edges.
Serving Suggestions
This dip is incredibly versatile when it comes to serving options. Here are some of the best ways to enjoy it:
