This trio from Homure H offers a small (1 tablespoon), medium (2 tablespoon), and large (3 tablespoon) scoop — all of which are stainless steel and have an easy-release squeeze handle.
I especially love that the handle has thick rubber gripping so it won’t accidentally slip and it’s easy to hold. Plus, the largest size is durable enough to conquer soft ice cream or gelato to make the yummiest cookie sundae!

This cookie scoop comes in classic sizes and is just an all-around good scoop. It’s available in five sizes and comes in a super small scoop that is .5 tablespoon. Like my other top options, these scoops are also stainless steel and have squeezable handles to release the dough.
I personally love how well-made this cookie scoop is, and I’m also obsessed with how versatile it is. Not only can you use it for my tasty, chewy Oatmeal Cookies, but you can also use this tool for melon balling, cake pops, or meatballs!

Other Cookie Scoops to Consider
OXO Good Grips Large Cookie Scoop
This OXO cookie scoop comes in a few sizes, with the large option being a great pick for chunky doughs, like my yummy Monster Cookies. It has more than 12,000 reviews and a 4.4-star rating on Amazon. Although I prefer the Restaurantware large cookie scoop, this is still a good option if you like the OXO brand. The OXO Good Grips Large Cookie Scoop is available at Amazon for $17.95.
Zeroll Standard Length 30
You’ll mostly see the Zeroll brand included in roundups of the best ice cream scoops from editorial sites like Bon Appétit and People. That said, the brand makes multi-purpose scoops in a variety of sizes and colors, like this 2030 Standard Length model. It didn’t make it in my top picks, though, because the odd handle might not work for everyone and it’s the most expensive scoop for what it does. The Zeroll 2030 Standard Length 30 is available at Amazon for $21.99.
Gorilla Grip Stainless Steel Multipurpose BPA-Free Spring Scoop
This Gorilla Grip cookie scoop is also available in a variety of sizes and handle color, and like the others on my list, it has squeezable handles to easily remove the dough off the scoop. It’s still a great option, but it’s shorter than your traditional scoop, making it a bit trickier to grab the dough at the bottom of the bowl. The Gorilla Grip Stainless Steel Multipurpose BPA-Free Spring Scoop is available at Amazon for $18.99.
Why You Can Trust Me
I’ll say it: I’m a cookie connoisseur! I bake cookies almost every day, which is how I’ve amassed SO many recipes and have spent SO much time testing (and eating!) cookies for my new cookie cookbook! I’ve perfected favorites like my famous Oatmeal Zucchini Cookies to my Ultimate S’mores Cookies!
After making batches upon batches of these treats — and using my go-to tools — I definitely have STRONG opinions on what cookie tools are the best. To help you choose the best cookie scoop, I sought out options with thousands of reviews and high ratings at online retailers like Amazon.
Everything to Know Before Buying a Cookie Scoop
What to Consider Before Buying a Cookie Scoop
There are a few things to consider before picking a cookie scoop, but the recipe your following should give you a sense of what you need.
Size: If you know you like bite-sized cookies, you’ll want a smaller scoop. If you’re in the big cookie camp, opt for a larger one. All in all, if you’re a frequent cookie baker like me, you may find yourself wanting a few sizes to cater to your various recipes, so take this into account when deciding which one to buy.
Ease of use: All of the options that I recommend on this list have a lever or squeezable handle that allows you to easily release the dough from the scoop. However, you’ll also find multi-purpose scoops or ones made for ice cream that don’t have that feature. If ease of use is something you prioritize in your kitchen, make sure you purchase a cookie scoop that has a comfortable, ergonomic handle.
Easy to Clean: Not every cookie scoop featured on my list is dishwasher-safe. If cleaning up after a baking session is your biggest pet peeve, only add a dishwasher-friendly option to your cart.
Durability: I don’t think anything is worse than breaking a brand new cooking or baking tool just a few months after buying it! A stainless steel cookie scoop will likely make it through a decent amount of wear and tear.
What Size Scoop is Best for Cookies?
I recommend using a scoop that can accommodate 2 tablespoons of dough to make an average-sized cookie like my Restaurantware Met Lux Scoop one. You can also go with a scoop that holds 1 tablespoon for a small cookie or one that holds around 3 or 4 tablespoons for a large treat. Ultimately, there’s no wrong size when it comes to making cookies! It’s all up to your preference.
How Do You Use a Cookie Scoop?
After prepping your cookie sheet (I LOVE these ones from Williams-Sonoma!), scoop the dough into round balls and squeeze the handle or lever on the scoop to release the dough onto the sheet. Make sure to leave about 2 inches between each cookie so they don’t accidentally stick together. Once you’re done scooping dough, either wash the scoop with soap and water or place it in the dishwasher, per the brand’s care instructions.
How Do You Stop Dough From Getting Stuck to the Scoop?
Choosing an option with a lever that’ll sweep the dough off of the scoop will help with the dough not sticking. But if it’s still sticking, and if your dough is room temperature, try refrigerating the dough until it’s more solid. Another option is to lightly coat the scoop with a baking spray.
What Should You Use for Big Cookies?
Depending on how big you want your cookies to be, you should choose a scoop that can fit 3 or more tablespoons. I recommend going with the Restaurantware Met Lux Scoop in either the 2- or 2.75-ounce size for a larger cookie.

I’ve been looking for a good cookie scoop. Thanks for this. I will say that a con for your recommendation of the restaurantware model is that it is difficult to use for lefties. You are forced to use this in your right hand which is not intuitive for us. Thanks again Maria!
Good point! They need left handed scoops too!
My favorite are the cookie scoops from King Arthur catalog. They are so sturdy.
I will have to try those!
