During the hot summer months, I only want to eat salads, watermelon, and ice cream. Ok, let’s go wild and include some chips and guacamole by the pool. Sounds like a good summer to me:) Seriously though, I LIVE for summer salads when produce is so fresh and delicious.

I am constantly creating new summer salad recipes so I never get bored with the same old salad and this Berry Caprese Salad recipe is a WINNER! I love a good classic caprese salad, with tomatoes, but this berry version is my new favorite and I think you will love it too!

It is so easy to make and a real show stopper! It is almost too beautiful too eat! Plus, it’s super festive, the perfect side dish for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, or Labor Day! This salad will really impress your family and friends.

Salad Ingredients

The ingredient list is super simple!

  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Fresh mozzarella balls
  • Basil
  • Olive oil
  • Balsamic Glaze

Make sure you start with the most beautiful and ripe berries since they are the star of the salad. I don’t recommend frozen berries for this recipe.

Fresh mozzarella cheese is also best. I like to use the small fresh mozzarella balls that are in water. They are the perfect size for this salad. You can keep the mozzarella balls whole or cut them in half, either way works well. If you can’t find them, you can use regular fresh mozzarella, just cut it into bite size pieces.

How to Make Berry Caprese Salad

  • To assemble the salad, place all of the berries in a big bowl with the fresh mozzarella.
  • Add fresh chopped basil, a drizzle of olive oil, and finish the salad with balsamic glaze. You can find balsamic glaze at most grocery stores, look in the vinegar aisle. It really makes the salad, so don’t skip it. It is SO good!
  • Make sure you GENTLY stir the salad, you don’t want to break up the berries.

See how easy that was? This twist on the classic caprese salad is guaranteed to be a summer salad favorite! Make it for all of your summer BBQ’s, potlucks, picnics, and parties! It is the perfect red, white, and blue salad for the summer holidays too!

What to Serve with Berry Caprese Salad

How to Store

  • This salad is best the day it is made. It only takes ten minutes to make, so making it before serving isn’t a problem.
  • If you need to keep it in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving, it will be fine. And if you happen to have leftovers, it will be fine in the refrigerator for a day, the berries might get a little mushy and juicy though.

Made this for a friends get together for pizza night. Thought a fresh fruit salad would accompany pizza well and it did! The host loved it. My husband did not try, he is not a fruit fan. Assembled as instructed. I did chill it which brought out the flavors and softened the berries a little. May have wanted a hint of salt or lemon? Just needed a little more flavor for me. Fruit is amassing in FL so this was perfect. Thank you!
