Quick Summary
Easy Banana Bread Recipe- Tips for turning your brown bananas into the best banana bread EVER! The bread is moist, perfectly sweet, and bursting with banana flavor. It is a family favorite!
I am super excited because we are talking ALL about Banana Bread. Yes, I get excited about banana bread because it is one of my favorite things to bake and eat. I am always asking myself, “What can I do with bananas that are going bad?” The answer is always BANANA BREAD! Who doesn’t love a warm slice of banana bread slathered in butter?
I have baked and eaten A LOT of banana bread in my days. I love making different versions, like my famous Chocolate Banana Bread and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, but today we are talking about the classic.
This EASY Banana Bread recipe will remind you of your mom’s or your grandma’s recipe…but even better. The quick bread is buttery, super moist, has an intense banana flavor, the perfect amount of sweetness, and it’s EASY to make!
If you have a lot of brown bananas to use up, you can double this recipe. Bake a loaf for you and a loaf for a friend! Every time I share it with friends and family, they want the recipe. I promise you will be baking this one all of the time!
Table of Contents
Basic Ingredients
The ingredients are SIMPLE, but the end results are DELICIOUS!
- Flour– use all-purpose flour. I always fluff, spoon, and level the flour when measuring.
- Baking soda– make sure it is fresh!
- Cinnamon– a little cinnamon compliments the bananas nicely. Don’t skip it.
- Salt– always salt!
- Brown bananas– you will need 3 large or 4 medium brown bananas.
- Butter– use unsalted butter that has been melted and slightly cooled.
- Oil– you can use vegetable oil, canola oil, or melted coconut oil.
- Brown sugar– always pack your brown sugar.
- Egg– 1 large egg, at room temperature.
- Vanilla extract– I highly recommend pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
- Turbinado sugar– for sprinkling on top of the loaf before it goes in the oven. It gives it a nice, sugary crunch!
What Kind of Bananas to Use
- The ideal banana for banana bread is BROWN. You want them more brown than yellow. The bananas should be overripe. Brown bananas are what make banana bread sweet and moist.
- Can you make banana bread with fresh bananas? Overripe bananas are best, but if you are in a pinch, you can ripen the bananas by baking them in the oven. Place unpeeled bananas on a baking sheet and bake at 250°F until soft, about 15-20 minutes. Let the bananas cool. Peel, mash, and get baking!
- You can use frozen bananas if you are in a pinch, but I do prefer unfrozen bananas. To freeze bananas, peel them and put them in a freezer bag. I lay them in a single layer so they don’t stick together and press all of the air out of the bag. The bananas can be frozen for up to 6 months. When ready to use, let the bananas defrost on the counter for about an hour. You want them to be soft but not runny.
- You can also mash overripe bananas and freeze the mashed bananas. I like to freeze them in cup size portions in freezer bags. Make sure you write the date, cup amount, and frozen bananas on the bag so you know what is inside. Defrost before using.
- For this recipe, you will need 1 ½ cups mashed bananas, which is 3-4 bananas, it just depends on their size. Three large bananas or 4 medium bananas.
Best Pan for Making Banana Bread
- For this recipe, I recommend a 8 1/2- by 4 1/2-inch loaf pan so the bread rises up nice and tall.
- You can use 9-by-5-inch loaf pan, but your loaf will be a little shorter.
- If you use the smaller loaf pan, it will most likely take 5-10 minutes longer to bake. Both work well, the loaves will just be a little different in size, just make sure you watch the baking time. I always recommend checking the bread early if it’s your first time making the recipe.
- I use a metal pan that isn’t too dark in color. If you are going to use a glass pan, decrease the oven temperature by 25 degrees. Make sure you grease the pan really well so the banana bread doesn’t stick in the pan. I like to use a nonstick cooking spray.
- You can line the pan with parchment paper, with a little overhang, and spray it with cooking spray. This will make it easy to lift the bread out of the pan.
- If you want to make smaller loaves, you certainly can, just reduce the baking time!
How to Make Easy Banana Bread
Ok, it’s time to make some bread! I love this recipe because you don’t even need a mixer, you can make it by hand! It is so simple and the best banana bread you will ever eat!
- Whisk it up. For the dry ingredients, I whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and a little cinnamon. You can leave the cinnamon out, but I love the hint of cinnamon. You can also add a pinch of nutmeg if you wish.
- Mash it up. Next, mash up those brown bananas. You can use a fork or a potato masher. You can also use a mixer to mash up bananas, but I like to keep it simple and not get the mixer involved for this recipe. I grab a fork and mash away!
- Banana bread with oil and butter. I use melted unsalted butter AND oil in this banana bread recipe. Using both brings out the best flavor and texture. The butter provides a rich, buttery flavor and the oil makes the banana bread super moist. You can use vegetable, canola, or melted coconut oil. They all work well.
- Brown sugar. This recipe uses ALL brown sugar to sweeten the banana bread. I love the hint of rich caramel flavor the brown sugar adds and it makes the banana bread extra moist.
- Don’t over mix. When you combine the dry ingredients and wet ingredients, don’t over mix the bread. Stir until just combined. If you over mix you will end up with a heavy and flat loaf.
- Bake it. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. To give the banana bread a sweet crunchy top, you can sprinkle the batter generously with turbinado sugar before going into the oven. Bake until the bread is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean after inserted into the center of the bread. If the bread gets too dark and the center isn’t done, you can drape the bread with a piece of aluminum foil to keep it from getting too dark.
- Cooling down. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Use a butter knife to loosen the bread and let it cool completely on a wire cooling rack.
Variations
This is a classic recipe, but if you want to mix it up, go for it! You can add in 1 cup of any of the following ingredients.
- chocolate chips
- chocolate chunks
- chopped pecans
- chopped walnuts
- flaked coconut
- blueberries
How to Store
If you don’t eat the entire loaf after it comes out of the oven, here are some tips for storing banana bread.
- When the banana bread is completely cool, wrap it in plastic wrap and store on the counter for up to 3 days. I find if it sits any longer than that the bread gets too moist. Luckily, we never have a problem eating a loaf in 3 days:)
- If you live in a super humid climate, you can store your banana bread in the refrigerator, but it might dry it out a little.
How to Freeze
- You can also freeze banana bread. To freeze, let the bread cool completely, wrap it in plastic wrap and foil. The bread can be frozen for up to 2 months. I recommend labeling and dating the bread so you know how long it’s been in the freezer.
- To defrost frozen banana bread, simply thaw at room temperature before slicing and serving.
- You can also freeze individual slices. Wrap thick slices in plastic wrap and foil. Place in a freezer bag. When ready to enjoy, remove from the freeze and pop in the toaster. You can also thaw the slices on the counter.
FAQ
If your loaf is starting to get too dark on top, you can cover it loosely with aluminum foil. This will prevent the top from browning, but allow the center to keep baking.
Yes! Grease or line a muffin pan with paper liners and fill the muffin cups ¾ the way full. Bake for 18-22 minutes.
Yes, if you want to make a banana bread snacking cake, you can spread the batter evenly in a 8×8-inch baking pan. Reduce the baking time. I recommend checking at 20 minutes. It might take a little longer, depending on your oven.
Lots of bananas! I use 1 ½ cups mashed brown bananas for a super moist loaf. I also use a mixture of melted butter and oil, which keeps the bread moist. Also, make sure you don’t pack your flour when you measure and don’t over bake the bread.
Yes! Banana bread freezes beautifully. You can freeze an entire loaf or individual slices. Wrap the bread or slices in plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze for up to 2 months.

Helloย
I was wondering if I add blueberries to this recipe should the blueberries be fresh or can I use frozen?ย
This is almost my exact ratio of banana, flour, sugar, leavener,ย and fat for perfect banana bread! Only difference is I use a full cup of sugar, but Iโm sure I could cut it down if I really wanted to! Always cinnamon and vanilla, always and forever. This recipe works perfectly every time! Any recipe Iโve ever tried with milk or yogurt or anything else is just not the same.
It’s the best!
I made this tonight and it was the best I’ve ever had. I used 4 bananas. I meant to throw some mini chocolate chips into it, but forgot, so I let them melt on top. O.M.G. it was good. Thanks for posting this recipe..
Glad you think it is the best banana bread too! We love it!
This is a really good loaf of banana bread! I’ve always had trouble with other recipes cooking all the way through in the middle or being dry and blegh. This is moist with a perfect crumb consistency! Can’t decide if I like this or the chocolate banana bread better!
You are making a banana bread lover out of me!
I am so happy you liked this banana bread! The chocolate one is a winner too:)
Sounds delish. I like the mix of oil and butter and will definitely make this (with walnuts) very soon.
Regards and thanks from sunny South Africa !
Walnuts will be a great addition. Enjoy!
Love the recipe. Added butterscotch chips instead of chocolate chips. Yum
I will have to try butterscotch chips. YUM!
If I use this recipe for muffins, how many would it make and how long would I bake them? ย The recipe sounds so good I will make it as a loaf if necessary but would rather make it into muffins if possible. ย Many thanks in advance of any advice you can give me.
I made muffins out of this recupe and it made 24 muffins. At 350 its took my oven 30 min to bake fully and were wtill moist and delicious!
This sounds amazing and thank you for all the tips re freezing etc. I intend making this with walnuts before I am much older ! Am salivating already. Regards from sunny South Africa.

Can regular sugar be used instead of brown sugar?
You can use regular sugar, but it will change the texture and flavor a little.
I just made this and itโs absolutely the best Banana Bread ever! ย I made it into mini loaves and baked it for 35 minutes and they came out perfect. ย Not over mixing the batter is a great tip! ย It made the bread very light. ย
So happy you loved our banana bread recipe! Thanks for letting us know!
Thank you for sharing ฤฐt’s Best Food
I made by the texture was like a pudding..why?
Did you bake it long enough? What size pan did you use? Did you use too many bananas? I’ve never had that problem. Sorry!
Amazing! Best banana bread recipe that weโve tested!
YAY! Glad you love it too!
This banana bread was simply amazing! I made it for our church bake sale (all proceeds went to charities) and this banana bread sold so fast! I’m going to make triple what I did next time to bring in even more money for our local charities!

Looks and sounds delicious…..haven’t made yet…but will….when I find out how to use these frozen bananas I have in the freezer ….. Does anyone know ?
I know you can use them, they are frozen whole in their peel….so I know they have to thaw some…..but am wondering ย if that is going to make a difference ย in the batter then ?ย
I use these bananas in smoothies, but haven’t ย used them in baking banana bread but I know you can…..do you happen to know ย Maria ?ย
Thanks,
I freeze bananas all the time. I donโt even peel them. I thaw them while on the counter, then mash. I do drain off a bit of the banana liquid, though, so the finished product isnโt too wet.
If you make two loaves can you bake them both at the same time? Want to make two loaves but don’t want to have to bake separately. Thanks!
You can bake them at the same time, it should take about the same time, maybe a little longer.
Without a doubt the best Banana Bread I have ever made or tasted!! The kids gobbled it up, and so did I….
Can you use whole grain oat flour instead of the all purpose flour?ย
Omg!! I just made this recipe and I am crying.. itโs the best banana bread I have EVER made. I changed a few things because I didnโt have somebody ingredients but this recipe and instructions are printed and tucked away now. I used white sugar instead of brown and added 1 tablespoon of molasses since I didnโt have brown sugar. I also used self rising flour since I didnโt have baking soda or all purpose flour. I also did not have a a loaf pan so used my muffin pan and they were done in 25 minutes. ย I made sure not to mix them too much like the instructions said and wow wow wow theyโve are so moist, not too sweet and delicious. We are eating them hot with butter right now.ย
So happy you loved the banana bread!
My husband and I don’t eat salt is it okay to leave that ingredient out of the recipe?
The salt really flavors the bread. You can try it without but it might be lacking in flavor.
I made this today and added mini chocolate chips, dried cranberries and pecans. Yum!
My first ever try of banana bread is in the oven now. Kitchen smells wonderful. Can’t wait to see how it tastes. Followed your recipe and added pecans. Was so easy, I kept thinking I must be missing steps.
It’s so easy and so good!
Great recipe!!!! All gone in two hours.
YAY!
Every time I make this itโs perfect! So delicious!!! Thank you!!!
You are welcome!
I was wondering why you don’t use baking powder
I use baking soda.
This is a good recipe. I made it with a struessel topping – just mix together in a bowl 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cup oats, 3 Tablespoons butter. Mix it all together with your hands until butter is crumbled into dry ingredients. Then add it to the top of the batter and cook. Yummy.
Love the idea of a streusel topping. Yum!
The best banana bread I have ever made! I added dark walnuts…no spices. I simply wanted an old-fashioned moist bread & I got it!
Yay! Glad you loved it!
Why every time I bake a banana cake I have the biggest problem with raising up it turn out doughy please help what am I doing wrong
Don’t over mix the batter and make sure you leavening agents are fresh.
Can granulated sugar be used instead of brown sugar in this recipe?
This taste is delicious but the bread never did rise, I live in Colorado so there were no instructions for high altitude. I did not overmix either. I would appreciate a response thank you
I am not sure what the exact changes are for high altitude. Typically, you want to do a little more flour and a little less sugar. Sometimes a little less leavening too. Let me know if you try it!
I’m in utah. No need to change anything for the altitude. Works just fine with this recipe
Just made this for a second time. Sooooo yummy ๐
Best banana bread ive made! Was going to add choc chips this time but decided the cake on its own is so yummy there is no need!
I know, it is so good on it’s own, but I do add mix in’s sometimes to change it up. You really can’t go wrong with this recipe!
At what temperature do you bake this.
350 degrees F. See step 1.
Oh my gracious! You are not exaggerating one bit! I made this earlier today, and it is the BEST banana bread I have ever made. It had excellent flavor, and was super moist. Absolutely delicious!

Every time I cut a piece it crumbles apart. Didnโt like that and not sure why it did that. If anyone knows why let me know.ย
Thank you
Is the bread cool Are you using a sharp knife? We’ve never had any issues cutting the bread.
Mine did too. I Think we didnโt bake long enough but I canโt stand stiff dry bread.ย
I’m making it right now.
Talk later with results.
Tried this today.. Nailed it.! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe..it’s going to be with me forever. Love from India
You are welcome! Glad you enjoyed the bread!
This is the simplest recipe Ive ever tried and it makes FANTASTIC Banana bread!! I cant explain why, as it is as simple as can be, but its the best Ive ever had and Ive been making Banana bread for a long time (Im 57 yrs old). Maybe its the brown sugar, or the fact you only stir it, not use a mixer. Maybes its the combo of butter and oil? Perhaps its all the tips and ideas. Who knows. All I know is it works. I added pecans. That was the only alteration I made.
I am thrilled you love this banana bread! Thanks for letting us know!
I dont understand your confusion. Its all listed there… all the quantities and amounts. Try it. Its the best ever ๐
I’ve made this three times since I have found this recipe. It’s out of this world. I kept everything the same but added toasted chopped pecans and brown sugar to the top. So incredibly good. I suggested to my husband that we freeze half so we don’t eat it all in 3-4 days and I got the “are you crazy?” look. Thank you!
Ha! This bread always disappears quickly in our house too:) It is TOO good:)
I really liked this recipe but mine baked in about 20-25 mins less than an hour. I used about 3/4 chopped pecans. ย It isnโt real sweet but thatโs what I really liked. Next time iโll ย But a Bit brown sugar and mini choc ย chips or coconut with the nuts. So yummy. Even my sweet tooth Hubbyโs enjoyed it.ย
It’s looking like a mind blowing recipe. I appreciate your effort for sharing such a delicious recipe. But I am an eggless vegetarian. Can I use curd in place of eggs. And in what quantity? Looking forward for your reply. Thanks
I haven’t tried that. You can make a flax seed egg.
And did you mean baking soda as baking powder? Waiting for your reply.
You need 1 teaspoon of baking soda for the recipe.
Very easy recipe to make. Incredibly moist and delicious. I love walnuts so I added them to this recipe. I highly recommend this banana bread……delicious!
Glad you enjoyed it!
ย I didnโt have any brown sugar so I had to use regular sugar unfortunately but it turned out absolutely spectacular! I got rave reviews from all my roommates! I will definitely keep this recipe in my bookย
Glad you loved the banana bread!
It is the best recipe and tastes so much better. Thanks for sharing.
This is a great recipe. It was easy to make, and it will now be my go to recipe for banana bread. I decided to add the cinnamon, and I’m glad I did. It’s a subtle, but enhancement.
Glad you enjoyed the banana bread. Cinnamon is a nice touch!
It came out amazing…I didn’t use cinnamon because my family don’t like it but other than that…It was AMAZING! Thank you!
Banana bread was deliciousย
This is the BEST banana bread recipe that I have found in the 10 years of using the same oven! It was fully baked in 50 minutes when other recipes take at least 65. So moist, not heavy, forgiving. I added 1/4 c. chopped walnuts and the batter played nice with them, too. Looking forward to the next bunch of bananas that get overripe on the counter!
This is so good! Very moist and flavorful. It earns the #1 Banana Bread recipe in my book! Thanks for sharing this yummy goodness. ๐
This was my first time baking banana bread. This recipe is very good and suprisingly moist. I added chopped walnuts.
Glad you enjoyed the bread!
Yes! I sure did and I love it! ย Itโs better than any banana bread Iโve ever baked. I didvided the oil measurement ย into two, a little bit of vegetable oil and coconut oil ( I’m a coconut lover) give my bread that extra yummy taste. Thank you so much for the recipe. Next stop…chocolate chocolate banana bread!
Glad you liked the banana bread, you will love my chocolate banana bread too! Both are so good!
Best banna bread recipe I have it will be my go to from now on. Love it can’t stop eating it.

This used simple ingredients that I always have and within 10 minutes it was in the oven. So simple yet so good and I love that it allows the bananas to really shine. The cinnamon also adds a special touch! If you’re looking for a classic banana bread, this is it!

Dayum girl, this is good banana bread! Iโve made several different recipes through the years, and this is for sure one of the best! I โhealthiedโ it up by substituting half of the AP flour with whole wheat flour and 1/4C of ground flaxseed. I think that Iโm going to have to hide this loaf, or I might eat it all myself!
This looks so delicious!

Hi!! What happens if you donโt have butter? Can I make it without?ย
You can use all oil if you don’t have butter, but I like the flavor the butter adds.
Love your recipe! It’s simple to make and so delicious! Thank you for your tips to store banana bread!
Best banana bread recipe Iโve made to date!! Weโre vegan so I subbed a flax egg and vegan butter but itโs absolutely Devine! Super moist and the sugar on top forms such a nice crust. This will be our new go to recipe the search is over.
I am glad you think it is the best too! We love it!
This came out really nicely! ย Delicious. ย I used less sugar and put in some chopped dates.
Love the chopped dates addition!
If you want to cook it in a regular sized pan, not a bread pan, just cook it for thirty minutes. This was a very good recipe
Thanks for your sharing…
have you ever done this with all purpose gluten free flour?
I used to make a banana bread like this but I used another way. It’s looks good. I’ll try it
This is such a good recipe! Thank you for sharing.
I make these regularly with mini chocolate chips and in silicone cupcake forms, freeze them and then my daughter takes them for lunches. Highlight for her.

I just made this last week and it really was the best banana bread I have ever made!! So moist. Definitely keeping this one!
Absolutely delicious! ย I added toasted pecans. ย I didn’t have turbinado sugar, so I crushed up some pearl sugar for the top. ย This will replace my other basic banana bread recipes. ย Thanks so much.
Glad it is your new favorite banana bread recipe!
Hi. How does this taste in comparison to your buttermilk banana bread recipe? Thatโs the only one Iโve tried making and itโs always a hit.ย
I think this one has a deeper banana flavor. I love them both:)
Iโve been making this recipe with my class in China ย for a couple years now and and am turning China onto the joy of banana bread one ย class of six year olds at a time! Thank you for the perfect recipe.
You are welcome!
I made it today… awesome it was…what if i wanna make it eggless…what can i do? Pls help
You can use a flax egg.
It IS the best banana bread Iโve ever made. ย It parallels my momโs from so long ago….I could never capture hers. ย But this is every bit as yummy. ย
This is the best banana bread! So moist and yummy. Donโt leave off the turbinado sugar though- I think all baked goods should be topped in it – love the crunch. ย I added chocolate chips both times Iโve made it and now Iโm having a hard time making banana bread without chocolate chips!
Chocolate is always a good idea!
Thank you so much for this recipe, and the tips as well, I had just about given up on bananna bread, as it always turned out a disappointment, but this loaf was quite the surprise! I followed your instructions to the letter, paying close attention not to over mix, and oh my gosh, what a treat. Thank you again, it’s my favorite dessert, and I so seldom get to enjoy it.

Absolutely the best banana bread I’ve ever made. It’s in the oven right now. This is probably the 10th loaf I have made. Wonderful flavor, texture, all of it. The addition of the sugar on top is brilliant. I use 4 bananas, add one cup of finely chopped pecans, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and that’s it. Perfection. Thank you!
Glad you love our banana bread recipe!
I just made this for the second time, and it is the best banana bread recipe I have found. I brought it to a girls weekend, and it got rave reviews. It goes together very quickly, and it turns out moist and delicious! I love that I do not have to drag my mixer out to make it. I usually make mine in mini loaf pans, because they are so cute, and I like the smaller slice. Love this recipe!
Glad you love our banana bread!
All your quick bread recipes already have all the little extra things I do to make my breads better, but written down.
Even the sugar sprinkled on top. It’s like you know me.
Only changes I made to this one were subbing in white whole wheat flour, an extra egg yolk (one for a double recipe), and pecans plus sugar sprinkled on top.
Doubling all your recipes so that it will last slightly longer than a day in my house.
Glad you like our recipes!
This looks so good! I can’t wait to make it ๐
Wow! ย I just made the best banana bread ever- thanks to your recipe. ย Love all the tips too. ย My family is very impressed- they think I actually know how to bake after serving this. ย Many thanks for making me look so good!
thanks
This ย was delicious. ย I increased the cinnamon to one teaspoon and used applesauce for the one forth cup of oil. ย I also added some raisins. ย This bread was tender and moist and having the turbinado sugar on top gave it a little yummy crust on top.
LOVE !
No baking powder?
No, just baking soda.
Great! Thank you for sharing
Really great recipe. I used 4 regular bananas and was worried my batter was too wet. But it turned out fine. Fluffy cake and a crunchy crust. This will be my new go to banana bread recipe!
I make banana bread a lot because I can’t let those over-ripen bananas go to waste. This recipe is by far the best one I’ve made. SOOOOO DELICIOUS. I added walnuts and only used 1/2 packed brown sugar (I try not to use as much sugar when possible). Thank you so much, I’ve found my new go-to recipe.
Hey, definitely itโs a great combination for breakfast banana and bread, I will try to make it soon, many thanks.
Great recipe! Simple ingredients, easy to process, this is my favorite thing in this recipe. thanks a lot
Looks fantastic! What a great way to serve banana bread. The colors look delicious.
Staring at a bunch of over ripe bananas today led me to an internet search: BEST BANANA BREAD RECIPES…Bam…there you are! Made the recipe as instructed, did not deviate, added 1 cup of blueberries. Baked in mini loaf pans for 35 minutes and voila…the best darn banana bread I have ever tasted! Thanks so much!
PS I read a couple of comments about altitude. I am in Lake Tahoe and no problem rising as written
Amazing recipe, turned out really good. My family loved it!
Hi there! I have everything on hand except kosher salt, can I use regular salt instead? Thank you ๐
Yes!
I can tell this recipe would turn out great, If I hadn’t used dark brown sugar… tasted more like a molasses cookie/spice cake sort of thing than banana bread. The light(NOT dark) brown sugar is a necessary detail to get right
This is such a great recipe! I have passed this recipe on to my friends and family too. My dad raves about this recipe, since before trying this he didnโt even like Banana Bread.
Glad you like the recipe!
I froze my peeled, brown bananas as directed here but when I pulled them from the freezer & defrosted them in the fridge, all I had left was chunks & a nasty looking brown liquid. What did I do wrong?
This recipe is perfect! Perfect color and taste. Mine took exactly 50 minutes.
Glad you loved the banana bread!
Best Banana Bread ever! Great Instructions.
The best ever banana bread. It didnโt last 1 day!
I loved this recipe ! Great flavor and moistness . New fav
I used 4 bananas and made muffins. I greased the tins instead of doing liners and 20 minutes at 350 was perfect. The recipe made one dozen with a little left over for a mini loaf. So good!
Can I use olive oil?
Sure, just note that olive oil has a flavor so the taste will be a little different.
Absolutely delicious! I substituted apple sauce for the oil and I baked it in a small bundt pan (I didn’t realize I don’t own a loaf pan!). It turned out perfect! Will definitely make again.
Made this recipe yesterday. Only had two brown bananas so I grated a Bartlett pear (the brown one) into the mix to make up the 1 1/2 cups.
It was AMAZING!! Youโre my #1 site for recipes so Iโm not surprised itโs so good โจโค๏ธโจ
I am so glad you are enjoying our recipes! Thanks so much!
This is a great Banana bread recipe! Iโve made a lot of banana bread . Ready made mixes, recipes.. and bought a lot of ready made.. this recipe is THE BEST Iโve ever tried and made! Thank you for changing my life.. seriously! Itโs that good!!
I am thrilled you love it!
Can you use salted butter? I dont have unsalted on hand.
Can you use salted butter?
Yes, it will be slightly more salty. You can reduce the salt a little if you wish.
Just made this Amazing Bread w/addition of praline pecan and it was so Yummy. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Oh my goodness. This recipes makes A-mazing bread. I added chocolate chips and my dad said itโs better than the chocolate chip cookies I made the same day! Super moist, great flavor blend.
Best Banana bread I have made. Total keeper of a recipe, thank you!
I always thought making banana bread was hard, but it wasn’t and thank you because this is the best, moist delish banana bread!
This banana bread recipe is easy and it always turns out perfectly!
My granddaughter and i have been trying out recipes while staying indoors during the COVID pandemic. I have to say this is the best banana bread i have ever tasted. Thank you for sharing the recipe. I sent some to work with my daughter who is a nurse. Everyone took time to stop for a brief moment and truly enjoy this treat. The least I could do for these brave, selfless individuals. Again, thank you and God bless!
You are welcome! And so sweet of you to share with your daughter and her co-workers. I hope everyone stays safe and well. Take care!
I have tried so many recipes during this COVID-19 quarantine.
My family absolutely loved this bread. My first time ever making it and I was so excited about how great it turned out! Will def share the recipe with my loved ones!
Just made this. Very good. I have made other banana recipes and this is a keeper!!!
Glad you loved the banana bread!
Hi, what size is your loaf pan?
Would it be ok to use regular brown sugar instead of light?
Yes!
This is the Best recipe ever!
You guys should try it !
I donโt know what I did wrong, I followed the recipe to a T. I even used really ripe bananas, 3 over them and it was a little over 1 1/2 cups. But this banana bread came out dry and not sweet enough. There was barely any banana flavor too. Could have used more cinnamon as well. My mother didnโt like it either. I was
I was in a pinch because I couldnโt find my grandmothers recipe so I used this one.
Same here, didnโt turn out good and lacked taste.
Great recipe with lots of possibilities to add mix- ins or cook in smaller size pan. I love that it includes oil and butter because the oil adds the moisture and the butter adds great flavor. I added 1 cup of walnuts and that worked out well. Instead of cooking in one large loaf pan, I used 3 smaller loaf pans, (5.75 inches x 3 inches) and cooked for 30 mins. Yum!
I wonder why.? I love them and always get great compliments on them .The only thing I do differently is use a whole stick of butter and skip the oil. I also add chocolate chips.
The best banana bread I have ever made, hands down! My husband and I LOVE it, and have made it 3 times in the past 3 weeks. He asked if I can make this a weekly thing, haha. This week I used 3/4 cup whole wheat flour and 3/4 cup all-purpose and it tasted great. Thank you for all of your amazing recipes!!!
I love this recipe so yummy whole family enjoyed it. This is my second time making this this time I added more nuts pecans and walnuts.
I haven’t made this yet~ looks delicious.
But I was wondering if you have ever added oats to it??
I haven’t tried adding oats.
I make this banana bread often and often take liberties with the recipe, such as adding a cup of oats! It comes out great. I also use 4x the cinnamon, and sometimes some nutmeg because it can handle the spice nicely.
hands down the BEST banana bread recipe iโve ever made!!! Super moist and flavorful, thank you!
I loved this recipe! I’ve made it twice in the last two weeks!
This was a super easy recipe to follow and was delicious. I added 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of ground flax seed. Will definitely make again!
This is one of the best recipes Iโve ever had for Banana Bread. I added in 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans to the dry ingredients.
I am excited to try this recipe. Are there any changes to ingredients for higher elevation cooking? Thanks. Doug
I followed the directions exactly as writ…terrible. Dry, flat, the top didnโt rise, top was uncooked.
I used almond flour and my banana bread didnt rise and it came out really moist. Just wondering if you have you tried making it with almond flour?
I have never used almond flour. The texture is very different.
I used almond flour once to make this- I had to
cook for MUCH longer. It was a lot more moist then when making it with regular flour and your right, it doesnโt rise as much, but still was delicious!
Recipe came out wonderful; not too sweet and perfectly versatile! Made them as muffins in my cupcake tin and baked for 20min. I added walnuts to part of the batch and going for blueberries next time.
*My Tips* Always sift dry ingredients and your cakes will be fluffier. Banana bread is especially easy to over mix so be careful or it’ll be flat and goopy.
Almond flour has a higher fat content than regular flour which may be why it was moister than expected.
Almond flour has a higher fat content than regular flour which may be why it was moister than expected.
This recipe is great. I browned the butter to add a nutty flavor to the bread. Also, toasted pecans. Super easy and delicious!
Giving this 4 stars because Iโm not sure why the middle/top of the middle takes SO long to bake that my outsides get dark. Although the taste is so good! I also add nutmeg and walnuts in mine!
Just made this today and have already sent the recipe to my daughters!! Best banana bread ever!!
Yay!
I will not use any other recipe. I live in Utah, like you do, so I trust your recipes for this altitude. Thank you for always coming through with wonderful things to bake.
This banana bread is super moist. Those that say it isn’t must be over- mixing, packing the flour or not using fresh ingredients. It is not the recipe! I have been baking for 35 years and this is my go to banana bread. My family loves it so much they stand in the kitchen and keep cutting slices.
I am so glad you love our banana bread recipe. We do the same thing:) A loaf never lasts long at our house!
Loved this recipe – so many compliments!
So happy you loved the banana bread!
I tired it and it came out the best banana bread ever although I used only one ripen large banana and 10 tbsp of sugar, and it was so yummy, thank you so much for the recipe.
Keep it up.
Glad you loved it!
I made a double batch tonight and it came out pretty bad. I make banana bread at least once a month and this is the first recipe that hasn’t worked for us. It’s way too moist and has no flavor, despite using so many bananas.
Best Banana Bread I have ever made. Super moist and full of banana flavor. Simple to make!
Made this 2 weeks ago and my husband loved it. So I made another one this morning.so much like my mom’s. Thank you.
Hands down, the best banana bread recipe so far! It was delicious, moist and just perfect!! Thank you โค๏ธ
You are welcome! Happy baking!
Delish! I havenโt made banana bread in almost 10 years and it turned out horribly the first time. Tried this recipe and it came out amazing! I did use salted butter tho bc thatโs all I had, was worried it would be an issue bc I also put in the amount of salt the recipe calls for but it still tasted so good and not too salty. We added chocolate chips too bc I mean chocolate
Thanks for the Awesome recipe!
Ive made this recipe several times and itโs delicious! I add walnuts to mine.
Delicious!! Moist and flavorful. Super easy to make. I sprinkled some brown sugar on top, because I didnโt have turbinado sugar, and it worked great. This recipe is definitely a keeper! Thank you!
I made this recipe last night and it was perfect! not dry at all ๐ A new fav added to the list.
Thank you for sharing!!
Best recipe ever! Like caramelized bananas in a bread form. My husband ate 3 slices in one shot when it came out the oven.
Banana bread is and has always been one of my favorite things to bake. I’ve used many recipes and this one is probably one of the best – if not the best – one I’ve made. It came out super moist and fluffy and not too sweet, which I like, with just the right amount of crisp in the crust. I added some chopped pecans and semi-sweet chocolate chips to the dry ingredients before mixing them with the wet. My husband loved it also!
I want to make this for 2 loaves what size pan so it will be a nice size as only one. I know I’m sounding crazy but when I looked up received two loaves this recipe came up but it just doesn’t say what size pans for two loaves. Thank you
Used olive oil and added crushed pumpkin seeds. Very good recipe.
It’s my first time making banaynay bread and it came out so good! Also added a bit of chopped pecans & walnuts to it. Will definitely use this recipe again!
Glad you loved the banana bread!
I tasted the salt in mine I thought 1/2 tsp was too much and used less and still tastes salty. Is that how it should be?
If you like less salt in your baked goods, you can use less. I personally like a little salt kick:)
This is the 3rd time I tried making banana bread and it finally worked!! Thanks so much, it smells and looks delicious, cant wait to try it!!
Yay! Enjoy!
I have made this recipe over and over. It is always delicious. The best banana recipe ever! Thank you.
I made this today using wheat flour and added nuts and mini chocolate chips. This turned out delicious!!!
So delicious, and easy to make!
Tried it and it was moist and Delish. I made Muffins. 18min at 350.
Thank you for sharing your recipe. I baked mine in the slow cooker. It turned out perfect. This is a keeper.
This turned out perfect. Addition 1 tsp additional flour and 1 tsp less sugar. Baked for 60 mins. Will definitely make again!
Yay! Glad you liked it!
BEST banana bread recipe ever, hands down! Itโs my go-to banana bread recipe now. Tried making it twice and both times turned out great! Recommended the recipe to my family and they loved it too! My husband can finish the whole loaf in 2 days! And he even asked me to make this as appreciation gifts to friends who helped out with our wedding. Like the caramel flavour of the brown sugar especially! Thanks for the recipe, Maria!
I made this recipe, and it turned out great!
Yay!
This is truly the Best Banana Bread! I used coconut oil and substituted the butter with more coconut oil! Also, added walnuts! Thank you for an AMAZING recipe!!
I always look forward to bananas that have turned brown so I can make this bread. It is the best! In my humble opinion, the turbinado sugar should not be optional. ๐ That little crunch on top is everything!
When I make banana bread it always gets too dark before it’s cooked all the way in the middle. Is there a trick to getting done and it staying light?
I have not made this yet, although I’m planning to. But to answer Amanda’s question, Maria’s discussion before she gives the recipe says, “If the bread gets too dark and the center isnโt done, you can drape the bread with a piece of aluminum foil to keep it from getting too dark.”
I’m not an expert but I’m wondering if you’re deviating from the recipe? Maybe extra bananas? Could also be your oven is getting too hot. You could try reducing the heat in the oven and wrapping the loaf pan with tinfoil. Maybe try 325 with tinfoil for 75-90 mins?
Cover your pan with foil if it’s browning on top too fast. ๐

This was the best banana bread I’ve ever made. My family loved it. Thank you for sharing
This recipe is simple and yet it is the best banana bread Iโve tried! Itโs the perfect version of this classic. Highly recommend!
Was delicious and easy to make.
Happy the recipe was shared and now know what I can do with my older bananas.
I doubled the recipe and baked 1/2 as a loaf and added walnuts to the other half and baked as muffins. They turned out delicious. The muffins baked for 20 minutes and came out perfect. I have saved this recipe and will be making it again.
This is a GREAT recipe! Turned out perfect…slightly crusty on the outside and moist on the inside. I used an 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 loaf pan and the minimum cooking time (30 mins) worked for me. I had all ingredients on hand, but wish I’d had walnuts to add. Next time! Give this recipe a try. You won’t be disappointed!
Loved this banana bread recipe! The turbinado sugar is definitely the secret. I added walnuts that also kicked it up a notch. Didn’t have to worry about about storing because it was gone in a day!
I love the sugary crunch too!
You were right. This is going to be my go-to banana bread recipe. It was sooo goood!! I added paleo candied pecans which I made as well. Oh my goodness.. the sugar on top was sweet sin on my lips! Thank you for posting!
Added 4 bananas and chopped milk chocolate, delicious!
can I use table salt -vers- kosher ?
Sure, just use a little less.
This is a delicious recipe!! My husband and I loved it. Just curious, Iโd like to try and make this a little healthier with whole wheat flour instead of all purpose. Do you think I could use an even exchange? Or should I use a little more/a little less?
I am glad you liked the banana bread! If you want to use whole wheat flour, use the same amount, the bread will be denser in texture, but still good!
Can we use overripe bananas that are in the freezer? Thanks!
Sure, defrost them and you might need to drain off a little bit of the water/liquid before smashing.
It truly is the best!
Can i add milk? Thanks.
I made this banana bread today and it’s a keeper. I added pecans, dried blueberries, mini chocolate chips and coconut. Since we have to watch our sugar I used Splenda brown sugar. Definitely will make again.

This is the BEST banana bread ever! I usually make it with the addition of 1.5 cups (160 g) coarsely broken walnuts (because I love walnuts). I’ve learned from experience that it’s important not to use more than 1.5 cups mashed bananas or the center won’t cook through before the outside gets too dark, so I freeze any extras until I’m ready to bake another one (mash the banana before freezing and then when it thaws just stir back in any liquid).
I doubled the recipe with variation of 5 very ripe bananas, 1 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4cup regular sugar and 1 cup toasted chopped pecans. Best bread ever! Definite keeper!!
Wow,it looks delicious.I really love homemade dishes. Thank you for sharing. I will try to make this banana bread for my family. I believe my family will like this very much. Love so much.
Wow, your recipe is so awesome. I have never known this recipe. Thanks for sharing. I will try to follow your recipe and I hope it looks delicious as your picture. I will share this recipe for my friends and my family. I think they love it too.
Thanks for sharing1 Glad you loved it!
I tried this recipe for the first time today and baked muffins that were absolutely delicious! I made it as directed and added 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. It’s the best recipe I’ve found, and I’ve tried quite a few over the years; I won’t have to search any longer. So tasty – thank you very much!
Thank you for sharing. It looks so yummy.
I donโt think thereโs a recipe from this website that Iโve tried and didnโt love! This banana bread is SO good!!! I love adding some chocolate chips ๐
Best banana bread Iโve ever made! thank you!
Do you think I could make this gluten free for a friend?
So glad you loved it. Yes, I like Cup4Cup flour.
Fantastic site you have here but I was wanting to know if you knew of any forums that cover the same topics
talked about in this article? I’d really love to be a part of
online community where I can get suggestions from other knowledgeable individuals that
share the same interest. If you have any suggestions,
please let me know. Cheers!
This is the perfect banana bread! Excellent recipe.
This is our tried and true recipe. Ive made it multiple times. The last time i added walnuts, pecans and dark chocolate. My husband loves it and always asks me to make it. Its so good and no crumb goes to waste. Its gone within 2 days.
We all love it. Iยดve been doing it at least once a month since I discover de recipe. We are from Colombia and me and my family live here, so ripe bananas are a sure thing.
So glad you love the banana bread!
Just made this today from on-line. The chocolate chip one in your book looks great but we aren’t fans of chocolate chips. Just waiting to cool. Then Attack!!
Iโve made several different recipes for banana bread, and this is by far the BEST one!! It is so moist and just plain delicious in every way! Everyone who tastes it, feels the same way, and has to have the recipe! Love the Classic and have made the chocolate as well, both are Devine!
Every time I have over ripe bananas, I make banana bread. Iโve been searching for a good recipe for awhile. Others donโt have the right texture or color, or itโs too dry. Oil and butter is the perfect combo! I added unsweetened coconut and mini dark chocolate chips. Best recipe!
Is it ok if I have no eggs does it still work
Sooooooo good! We have tried many of your recipes and they never disappoint, so when I was looking for a plain banana bread recipe I found this one and my daughter commented โwe trust herโ so itโs the one we tried – this will be the staple banana bread now. I used gluten free flour and it worked great! Thank you
So glad you loved the banana bread. Thanks for letting us know.
I’ve made this recipe twice now and love it! Thanks for sharing
So glad you love it!
I usually use my trusted Betty Crocker recipe. I had high hopes, but something just seems different, not good different. It didn’t rise as much as I would have liked and flavor just so so. 2 stars for being edible. On a positive, it was really moist.
Perfect every time! Love the combination of oil and butter in this recipe.
Well Maria was right! This is my go to banana bread recipe. My kids adore banana bread. The only thing I change is I add a cinnamon struesle ontop! I cannot thank you enough for this amazing recipe. โค
We love this recipe. We make these into 12 muffins, about 3/4 full. Bake 20 minutes at 350. My kids ask for them every time they see ripe bananas on the counter.
Delicious!!!!!!!
Best banana bread, ever ! I get requests for it frequently. I do add dark chocolate chips.
This has become my go-to recipe for banana bread. I reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup and add 1/2 cup applesauce. My kids ask for it almost every morning!
Best banana bread recipe I’ve tried so far.
It is the best:)
Bananas are on the counter now defrosting, I got a bunch at the local health food market.they were giving them away as they were too ripe to sell!! I,put them in the freezer just for this occasion
Yay, Mariaโs Banana Bread coming up!
Your banana bread recipe is now my go-to recipe! Everyone loves it, no leftovers! Just wanted to let you know and say thank you!!
I enjoy making this bread! I have made it twice using maple syrup (the real stuff) and just use a little less than sugar that is called for in this recipe. Also, I put about about one cup chocolate chips, mixed with a little of the flour mixture before adding them to the batter. My sister in law does not like nuts, so she got the chocolate chips. I doubled the recipe this time, so far the batter tastes delicious! Can’t wait to dig in!
I have just pulled my Banana Loaf out of the oven and our kitchen smells marvellous!
I did add some chocolate chips as the person I am gifting this to loves chocolate!
Looks wonderful and will definitely have to make another for my family try!!!!
Very good, very moist. Definitely will save recipe
My go to banana bread recipe!
After trying tons of recipes that were ok but not great I stumbled across this recipe. I have made this recipe at least 20 times over the past 5 years or so and it has come out perfect everytime!! I love it! Thank you also for all the tips along with the recipe. It really helped.
I’ve made it several times, it turns out great every time
I make this recipe all the time. Literally the best banana bread I’ve ever had!
Can you use avocado oil?
I haven’t tried it but if you like the flavor, I am sure it will work.
Posso avere la ricetta in italiano e in grammi
Grazie mille
Outstanding banana bread recipe! The turbinado sugar really adds to the flavor. Thank you!
Great banana bread recipe. I used three large bananas, and it was perfect. Really liked the brown sugar vs. white sugar in it
Great banana bread recipe. I used three large bananas, and it was perfect. Really liked the brown sugar vs. white sugar in it. I used avocado oil, and it worked great!
Glad you loved the banana bread. Thanks for sharing.
This has become my go to recipe!! I add chocolate chips and make mini loaves instead of in a regular loaf pan. They freeze really well – so I can pull out a loaf as I want!
It is my favorite too!
This is the only recipe I use! My boyfriend hates banana bread and I made this recipe and he canโt get enough. 3 years later and itโs still the only banana bread heโll eat
This makes me happy:)
The best banana bread I have ever made, and my husband loved it, too!
Thank you so very much, Maria!
It really is the best. My go to recipe for a classic loaf.
I had tried many recipes over the years, but this is the banana bread recipe I have saved and have made now for the past few years. My family loves it as written, with chocolate chips, or with nuts sometimes. Easy and delicious!
It is the best!
Our favourite banana bread
The best!
I made this yesterday and OMG is it delicious! I doubled the recipe to share with family. My sister always made this before. Not anymore, my go to recipe from now on! Thank you!
It really is the best!
Iโve used a lot of different recipes for banana bread. This one is my favorite by far. It is absolutely delicious. I added a cup of mini chocolate chips to mine. My 3-year-old granddaughter loved it!
It really is the best classic banana bread recipe.
The best banana bread is simply the best!
This was great- we love all of your bread recipes!
How long would you bake for mini loaf pans?
I made a double batch; 1 loaf with dark chocolate chips & 6 LG muffins, 3 with walnuts (for me!!). Light & moist, my husband loves it so some gets sliced and stored in the freezer so I don’t have to bake during the next heat wave
This recipe is really good. I made it into muffins (in a dark metal 12-muffin pan). I followed the other reviewer’s comment to bake it at 350 F for 20 minutes. I used the convection bake option in my oven. It’s been 5 days now and they’re still so moist and tasting fresh. I stored some of them in room temp and the others in the fridge and both are still really moist. For the flour, I weighed it into grams~ 180g total. For the butter, 57g. I also used olive oil because that’s all I have. I also used brown sugar in replacement of the turbinado sugar and I didn’t measure it at all; I just sprinkled a few on top after I topped them chocolate chips before baking. Oh and I also used 1 cup of chocolate chips in the batter. ๐
I am so glad you love the recipe! Thanks for sharing!
My third time making this recipe my husband absolutely loves it .it’s moist not too sweet .never posted before but thought I should amazing bread
It is the best!
Thank you!
Very very moist recipe. Just what I love. I add crushed pecans for some texture and topped with salted butter. Love this easy recipe !
My favorite!
My family loved your banana bread recipe. Thanks have a great day. We give it a five.
Yay!!
This has been my go to recipe for years.
I usually use 2/3 the sugar and add chocolate chips and it’s perfect every time
It is my favorite too!
A great post without any doubt.
This morning I am making this recipe for the fourth time, but the first time making it as muffins! When I mash my bananas, I use a pastry cutter because I like bigger chunks of bananas in my banana bread. This is a fantastic recipe and my favorite! I’m so glad I found it!
I am so glad you found it too!
Love this recipe! My go to for Banana bread. Brown sugar is the secret
I am so glad you love it.
Iโve made this banana bread recipe dozens of times over the past few years. Itโs perfect. And I can speak to using the 8×4 pan! Itโs just better than a 9×5 somehow. Thank you for a fantastic recipe!
I am thrilled you love it so much!
