Banana Berry Oatmeal Recipe
Updated March 26, 2019
I am a planner, not a “fly by the seat of my pants” gal. Some may consider me boring, but that is why I have my husband, there is not a boring bone in his body:) Once a plan is made, I like to stick to it. I also like to have a consistent daily routine, maybe not as bad as Groundhog Day, but close.
My day usually goes like this: exercise, get ready for work, eat breakfast at my desk, work 10 hours, make dinner with the hubs, and depending on the night I either-blog, clean, watch TV, read, or attend a social function. Pretty basic. Sometimes I am flexible with my schedule, but I prefer to have notice. I like to stick to the plan:)
One thing I never change is my breakfast. I always eat a bowl of oatmeal Monday-Friday. Sometimes on the weekends I splurge and have pancakes, a smoothie, or muffins, etc. but I really love my oats. They are so comforting and good for my heart. I love steel cut oats, but I usually eat good old fashioned rolled oats. I never get sick of them, even in the summer when it is blazing hot outside.
I do try to mix things up with different fruits, but my favorite oatmeal is my Banana Berry bowl. The banana melts into the oats and creates an extra creamy bowl of oatmeal. I top my bowl off with a splash of vanilla soy milk and fresh berries.
I love starting my day with banana berry oatmeal. My philosophy-why change a good thing? I never get tired of this healthy breakfast. It may be boring to some, but boring tastes pretty darn good to me!
Banana Berry Oatmeal
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 banana sliced
- 2 Tablespoons vanilla soy milk
- Toppings:
- Strawberries sliced
- Banana slices
- Blackberries
Instructions
- 1. In a microwave safe bowl, mix together the oats and cinnamon. Stir in the water.
- 2. Cook the oats in the microwave for one minute. Remove bowl and add in the banana slices. Stir. Cook for one more minute.
- 3. Stir in vanilla soy milk and top with fresh strawberries, bananas, and blackberries. I like blueberries too, I just ran out of them:)
- 4. Serve hot.
- *Note-make sure you use a large enough bowl. You don't want the oats to spill over, it is a mess to clean up. Trust me, I know:)

You’re not boring, you’re wonderful ๐ I am very into a routine too. And Josh is very not. I think that balance is required to make a relationship work!!! This bowl of oats is so pretty (as are all of your dishes). Again, I must tell you how much I value your blog…I obviously LOVE your baked goods and reading about your adventures ๐ Have a good weekend.
I am such a planner, too! I would NEVER think of you as boring. ๐ You oatmeal looks delicious. ๐
That looks so delicious, I love a good oatmeal!
Delicious and healthy – any kind of oatmeal is my kind of breakfast.
Yeah, we are planners at my house too & oatmeal is on our Mon-Fri menu as well
I love oatmeal too and eat it all summer long, as well. I never get sick of it. Yum!
Oatmeal is my favorite breakfast food. This is so quick and easy. Love the fresh berries this time of year.
Looks like a perfect breakfast for this kind of morning!
This is pretty much what I eat every day as well except 2% milk instead of soy and usually only one or two fruits. I’ve cleaned my microwave so many times from boiled over oats I’ve just resigned myself to cooking and cleaning a pot every morning. Sad right? But I do love my oats.
I was reading this post just as I was getting ready to make myself breakfast – so I had oatmeal with bananas! Thanks for the suggestion. It’s not quite the same as the kind I used to make (loaded with butter and brown sugar), but it sure is healthier and quite tasty!
I was just thinking this morning that it is an oatmeal type of day! I hope you have a good rainy day and get some good cooking in.
That looks so fresh and yummy. I love the idea of cooking the oatmeal a bit with the bananas. Can’t wait to try this!
I’m always looking for new ways to change my oatmeal up in the morning too. This looks delicious!
And don’t worry, I’m that planner in my house too. I like routine and you almost have to have a routine with two little ones.
Have a wonderful weekend!
My husband is just like you, he has a VERY structured routine. He could eat the same meal everyday and not complain about. Easy for me I guess! ๐
I love oatmeal in the morning too. I like all the options you give for toppings, so it doesn’t get boring!
I totally understand your need to be organized and have things planned. I am the same and sometimes it drives others crazy, but life is much simpler that way!
My hubby and I eat oats every weekday too. I always cook a big pot of them on Sundays, alternating between old fashioned rolled oats, steel cut, or Oat Groats (sometimes even a 5-grain cereal). I usually add some kind of dried fruit, but I want to try your recipe. It looks wonderful!
I love berries in oatmeal! And, I also start my weekdays with a bowl of steel cut oatmeal every morning.
I just bought a huge container of oats the other day. I’ve been eating oatmeal every morning and I would love to try this recipe!
There is nothing wrong with having a schedule, particularly when it involves a healthy and delicious breakfast like this.
you and I are so similar, it’s uncanny. i have my schedule as well and I get really anxious if I don’t stick to it. I’m an oats-in-the-morning girl too! These look delicious.
Haha I am also a planner and like to stick to a routine. This looks great and I really need to get back to eating oatmeal for breakfast!
i like plans and routines as well. i’m pretty rigid–unexpected things really drive me crazy! your oatmeal is lovely and nutritious–a fine way to start the day!
I made oatmeal just the other day. Your bowl looks much better, though.
A perfect breakfast dish!
Cheers,
Rosa
im new to ur blog but im so glad i found it! i love it and i think ur really pretty too.
xoxo
Kelsey-Welcome and thanks for the kind comment:)
Maria, I know that you are a planner, because I have been the lucky recipent of your work. I plan things out as well . . . but not so much as you I think. Have a great weekend! My best to Josh.
I could’ve written this post ๐ I too am a planner with a very similar schedule to yours (eerily similar), and oats are my breakfast of choice M-F. I try to break out of that rut on the weekends but more often than not I can’t stay away from my beloved banana oats!
Have a great weekend Maria!
Your oatmeal looks wonderful. I don’t find folks who plan boring! The schedule gives them a lot more free time in which to be spontaneous. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings…Mary
I too love routines and oats!! great breakfast. xo
I make oats almost everyday, too, and I always put half a banana in them. Best start to the day.
I may not be as structured as you but I do appreciate how you like to stick to the plan so well. The oatmeal looks wonderful. I actually have been having the same thing every morning which is rare for me but it’s a yogurt I recently found and I just love it. Chobani, know it?
Live Love Eat-we make our own yogurt, but I have tried Chobani brand and I like it.
I am a routine girl too. I think this oatmeal looks lovely! So healthy and delicious, a great way to start off your day.
I eat oatmeal 4 times a week and I too, am a planner and scheldule person. What kind of working out do you do?
Blond Duck-Like I mentioned, I like routines-same with my exercise. Monday-Body Pump, Tues. and Wed.-elliptical or run, Thurs.-Body Pump, Friday-Body Combat, Sat.-Body Pump, Sunday-rest. I try to walk at work too on my breaks.
I’m the same way Maria – I like routine and if that makes me boring, so be it ๐ Your oatmeal looks terrific!
Gorgeous breakfast!
This makes me smile. ๐ I adore my oatmeal too – usually it’s basic with raisins, cinnamon, cloves, honey and almond milk, but sometimes I like to blend up coconut and almonds too, and that is lovely! I’m going to try banana soon. ๐
I have not eaten Oatmeal for 19 years. Last time I ate Oatmeal was when my water broke with my son. I have tried to eat it since then but just can not.
i don’t think there’s anything boring about that lovely bowl of oats! plus it’s so healthy! mmmm.
I’m OBSESSED with anything banana so this looks awesome! I need to get back into eating oatmeal.
I have never seen a recipe on your blog that i DIDN’T want to make. Must . . eat . . . oatmeal . . .
I’m a planner too, and also married to a guy who’d rather fly by the seat of his pants (makes for a good pairing, don’t you think?)
This looks like a wonderful breakfast. I love oatmeal too but I find that it suits me better if I eat it for dinner instead of breakfast. My EVERYDAY breakfast (all four seasons) is an Egg Beater omellette with low fat pepper jack cheese. I need a heavy dose of protein in the morning for some reason or I’m starving again by 10:00.
What a nice and healthy recipe! love it!
i love oatmeal too! i bet the soy milk really makes this delicious. i love soy milk…it’s such a treat!
planner–raising hand
oat lover-raising hand
what I do is not plan anything on the weekends, and we mix it up with pancakes or waffles- something divine, it’s great but mon-fri plan plan…not boring at all, my life would collapse if I did not plan
sweetlife
Love your oatmeal… YUM! I am another planner… and my husband is not! It’s always interesting at our house ๐
I could never get sick of this breakfast. It looks incredible!
I love oatmeal. I have it every day. It’s the only thing that really fills me up in the mornings. ๐
I am an oatmeal-for-breakfast girl too! Sometimes I have overnight oats (mix oats with equal amount of water, let sit for half hour, mix in container of yogurt and let sit overnight) and sometimes I have mine cooked with banana and add almond butter after its cooked, topped with a little granola. Yum…I can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow morning!
wow cool info bro.
Do you use quick oats or regular?
Thanks!
I used regular oats, but quick would work as well.
how many calories?
I love oatmeal with bananas n strawberries i am going to. Try blueberries blackberries
When I was a child I did not like oatmeal because as you know everybody put sugar and everything. Now as a 68 year old woman I have discovered steel oats and I love them. I I tried to eat oatmeal every morning but two days out of the week I like like eggs and pancakes and other things. I love this recipe because it has two things that I truly love… Blueberries, and bananas. I also will try raspberries next time. Adding almond milk is superb! I enjoyed the other fruits and nuts to my oatmeal. Thank you for sharing. Healthy eating, happy heart!
