Avocado Pita Pizza with Cilantro Sauce
Updated March 26, 2019
We love making homemade pizza. Josh always makes the pizza dough, while I make the sauce. Well, last week I was craving pizza for lunch, big time! I was tempted to call my “dough boy” home from work so he could whip up some pizza dough, but I decided I should probably let him work:) I was busy with Caleb and didn’t have time to make pizza dough from scratch, so I took the easy route and used pita bread to create an Avocado Pita Pizza with Cilantro Sauce. The pita bread made a great pizza crust. I created a tasty pizza in a matter of minutes.
If you think putting avocado slices on a pizza is weird, think again. They make the BEST pizza topping. You really can’t go wrong with avocado in any form, in my opinion:) And I am in avocado heaven right now because we received a big box of avocados from California Avocados Direct. They are amazing! California Avocados Direct, a “Farm to Table” business, ships freshly picked avocados all over the United States. The avocados are beautiful, make a great gift, and were certainly delicious on this pizza! Oh, and we gave Caleb his first taste of avocado and he loved it! Mama is so proud he loves avocado:)
The sauce is made with cilantro, garlic, fresh lime juice, jalapeño, green onion, olive oil, salt. It is simple to make and is full of flavor. I spread the sauce on whole wheat pita bread and topped the pizza with shredded mozzarella cheese. I popped the pizza in the oven and baked it for about 10 minutes. I topped the hot and bubble cheesy pita pizza with freshly sliced avocados. I sprinkled the avocados with salt and dug right in.
The cilantro sauce was the perfect base for the pizza. The sauce went beautifully with the cheese and creamy avocados. I loved the whole wheat pita crust too. Using pita bread was the perfect solution to cure my pizza craving. This Avocado Pita Pizza with Cilantro Sauce is almost too easy to make. So easy, I might have to make it every day! I have been craving it ever since my first bite! Give it a try!

We’re growing cilantro- I will have to book mark this sauce. I bet it’d be fabulous with fresh cilantro. What a gorgeous lunch
That is so funny! I posted a pizza recipe with an Avocado Cilantro Pesto this weekend, too! We are totally on the same wavelength! ๐
I’ll take this pita pizza any day! Oh how I love the avocados on top, looks so delicious!
Thanks for the link love ๐
This sounds fabulous! I love how ease it is!
Yum, love all of your avocado creations!
The cilantro sauce especially sounds wonderful!
This fun pizza looks delicious. And, the pictures are just beautiful, too.
WOW, gorgeous looking pizza! Incredible flavor combo! Loving it!
Now this is a different pizza, but it looks great and all the flavors together sound amazing!!!! I may have to try this one!
Oh wow! Pinning for sure! Avocado makes everything better, doesn’t it?
Avocado on pizza?? I’ll take it!!
This looks absolutely amazing!!
The avocado and cilantro sauce sounds like a great combination of flavors. I make a similar sauce and I know how addictive it can be.
This looks amazing!!!!! Great combo.
Since I pretty much eat avocado everyday anyways, this is a perfect snack!
3 of my favorites: cilantro, jalapeรฑo, and avocados! Yum!!!
Oh my goodness, this looks so delicious! You always make me instantly crave what you’re making!
anything with avocado and I’m in!
This looks so, so good! I’m sold on anything with avocado, and this looks like such a flavorful (and easy!) recipe to whip up for a healthy lunch. And of course if you have a healthy lunch, you don’t have to feel quite as guilty for following it with your chocolate chip salted caramel cookie bars… yum ๐
This would be a great appetizer for a party. Yum!
How creative! And the avocado and whole wheat pita crust even add a bit of fiber to the mix. Yum!
Love how fast and easy this pizza easy… Not to mention all the deliciousness going into the cilantro sauce.
We make tortilla pizzas at least once a week. So simple but I love getting creative with them like this recipe. This looks fantastic!
Home made pizza is the best, it takes time but tastes like no one. Since I learned how to make pizza dough my family wants it all Sundays. So, I tried with different toppings, but never think about avocado (“palta” in Spanish), but I find it very, very interesting.
I love avocados and I will be putting them on pizza! You have the best ideas!
That is quite possibly the most zesty and fresh pizza I’ve ever seen!! And hey, I have everything I need. Monday dinner just got planned.
Using a pita as pizza crust is such a great idea, especially for a quick lunch. We have a Middle-Eastern market down the street that sells fresh pita bread every day. I know what I’m having the next time I have fresh pita bread in the house!
Oh, yum! This looks amaaazing, and I want it!
Avocados are one of my favorite foods!
Love this! My local farm has cilantro right now, so I can’t wait to make this! Maybe next week! ๐ Love the use of pita bread. I have found tortillas make a great crunchy thin crust too. I found a mesh metal round to bake them on, and they can even be barbecued!
I love homemade pizza, especially quick alternatives when you don’t have dough! ๐
This looks so good that the farmers may want it for breakfast! So excited that your baby loves avocados too!
avocado+pizza+pita? amazing!
oh my! Two of my very favorite things…I can’t wait to try this one!
Gorgeous. I love the avocado on top paired with the cilantro. This is definitely my kind of pizza.
i was a little scared of this until i saw you don’t heat the avocados…this sounds amazing!
We have a cilantro plant that is literally going gangbusters in the backyard, so I’m thinking this pizza will be in order this week, FOR SURE! With extra avocado, because why not?!?!
Maria, I love how much you love avocados… because you keep putting them in things that get me really excited!
Great avocado recipe, love it. I found this great cookbook full of healthy recipes, you might wanna have a look at http://tinyurl.com/cuv2pz4 !

This looks so easy and delicious! Congrats on you cookbook!
This looks amazing. I have never had pesto with a cilantro before. Great pairing with the avocados!
I have some leftover pitas and avocados just begging to be used for this recipe! Lovely idea, Maria. Thanks for sharing.
Love this so much! Cilantro and avocado are two of my favorites – it’s like guacamole on pita bread! YUM!
I totally read that as Avocado PIT pizza and I was so confused.
Ahh, i love avocados on pizza! similar to the california club at CPK. LOVE it.
Awesome summer meal!! I can’t get enough avocado!
What a fun idea Maria – such a cute little pizza!! I’m not an avocado fan, but I’m thinking caramelized onions would be delicious ๐
I once had avocado on pizza in an Italian restaurant and thought it was genius! I love what you did here, so imaginative!
Today must be avocado day in blogland! This pizza looks amazing, Maria. Cilantro sauce, yum!
I’m kind of a sucker for any pizza with green toppings, ESPECIALLY avocado! This is a genius move!
Wow! This was fantastic. Delicious and an easy Monday night dinner. Thanks

Ah-mazing! I have never thought to pair these two heavenly things outside the context of guacamole or tacos. Great call!
That pita pizza is looking good and I am liking that spicy cilantro sauce!
This recipe sounds great, although every time I read the title quickly in my Google reader, I read it as “Avocado Pit Pizza”, and it makes me laugh.
Wonderful!!! LOOOOVE avocados – definitely putting it on pizza soon ๐
Love the sound of that sauce and using pitas. And, of course, the avocados!!
Maria, that looks so good!! Can’t wait to see you next week!

Looks delish! Can’t want to try. Have you ever tried cauliflower crust? http://pinterest.com/pin/125186064612829803/
Such a great recipe! I made this tonight and it was delicious. I subbed a salty farmers cheese from a local Middle Eastern grocery store for the Mozzarella and it worked really well. Thank you for this!
You’re right – avo is GORGEOUS on pizza, its my favourite and I have bacon and avo pizza every time we order! just as good on wholewheat pita ๐
Hey I made this pizza yest.night and it was delicious…I added some shallots before it went into the oven and also added some salsa along with avocados…was too good..thanks for the recipe!! ๐
So goooddd!! I just made this..I didn’t have any green onion so I skipped it but I added sour cream (1 tablespoon) and it was delishh!!
Thanks for sharing!
LOVE this recipe. I made it for a few friends and they couldn’t believe how good it was. Thanks for the inspiration!
I have had this twice now. We added leftover cooked chicken as well on ours. Love this recipe. Thanks!!
Loved it! Sauce was great. You helped my use up my last avocado. Next time I’ll try with different veggies. Such an easy recipe to personalize. Thanks for sharing!
Love avocado! I do not, however, love cilantro, so I’m thinking of subbing basil or even parsley in it’s place. Love the quick pita pizza idea though. I have a cow milk dairy allergy, so I think I will use a goat cheese gouda or some other type of goat cheese. Your recipes never disappoint!!!
Ramp up flavor to fabulous plus by sticking the pizza back in the oven just long enough to gently heat the avocados through. The avocados become even creamier and the heat enhances all that melt-in-your-mouth goodness!
Loved this did add a few quartered grape tomatoes and a little pineapple cause I had a few items to use up it went well on a wheat tortilla. Thanks for the idea traditional pesto and red sauce gets a little routine and this is a nice change and great way to use up some of my cilantro.
Ive made this so many times now Ive lost count. ย I usually make homemade pizza dough for it but I absolutely love the cilantro sauce and the fresh avocado. ย Everyone I make it for says its the best pizza they have ever had. ย Great recipe!
