Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I do appreciate all of your kindness and support. I am feeling a little better, still not back to my “normal” self yet. I have lost my love for cooking, baking, and eating. So sad!! I might need Josh to take over for awhile if this week doesn’t get better.
But today is all about partying with pizza! We recently invited some friends over for an Artisan Bread in Five Minutes A Day pizza party. Josh made the master recipe a couple days prior to the party. This made hosting so much easier. The day of the party we made a homemade sauce, collected a bunch of toppings, and pulled out the dough from the refrigerator. Talk about simple!
When the guests arrived Josh rolled out the dough for everyone. We let our friends create their own pizzas. We had a bunch of toppings to choose from: peppers, olives, tomatoes, onions, pepperoni, canadian bacon, fresh basil, and of course mozzarella cheese. It was a ton of fun!
Our friends were amazed at the ABin5 crust. It really is SO easy and SO delicious! Next time you are in the mood for pizza, give it a try. And if you are looking for a fun dinner party idea, try an ABin5 pizza party. It was loads of fun! My pizza sauce recipe is below and if you want the dough recipe buy the book: Artisan Bread in Five Minutes A Day.
Pizza Sauce Recipe
Olive oil
½ onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
Fennel seeds, a dash
Crushed red pepper, a dash
2 cans of petite diced tomatoes, drained
1 can of tomato sauce
Salt/pepper, to taste
Fresh basil, a small handful, chopped
Italian seasoning (I use a blend by Emeril)
1. Heat a little olive oil in a large sauce pan. Saute onion until tender.
2. Add in garlic, fennel seeds, and crushed red pepper. Saute for a minute or two.
3. Add in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.
4. Season with salt, pepper, fresh basil, and Italian seasoning.
5. With an immersion blender, puree the sauce until you get the consistency you are looking for. I do this to make it more of a “sauce.” If you don’t mind the tomato chunks, you can skip the blending part. If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can transfer the sauce to a regular blender and puree.
6. I let my sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes to bring out the flavor.
7. Spread on pizza dough when ready. You can freeze leftover sauce!
Wow that pizza looks so so yummy delicious.
Looks great Maria!
These pizza look incredibly good and so tempting! Wow!
Cheers,
Rosa
What a great party! Everything looks so yummy!
What a fun party idea! The pizzas look delicious. I have ABin5 and really need to start spending more time with it! I really hope you start to feel better soon Maria – all is not right with the world if you’ve lost your love for cooking, baking and eating 🙁
That’s a great idea for a party! There’s nothing better than homemade pizza!
Oh wow! I have to make that crust!! Too funny we both posted about pizza today! You’re right…great minds do think alike! 😉
Mmmm, that pizza looks delicious.
i think i am gonna try this dough for dinner tonight. it looks so good! and so easy 🙂
Looks glorious, this is the type of crust I am trying to achieve!!! Thanks!
I will have to try your pizza sauce recipe next time. I’m not happy with what I’ve found in the store.
This cookbook is my favorite at the moment!
I got this book, but I have no idea what to start with. There are so many choices! Your pizza party sounds like a blast. I love all the varieties.
Oh, it looks yummy, as usual – your pizzas always look amazing Maria!
I love pizza with black olives! I wish I could eat yours for you! LOL I know bad right. But I would love a homemade pizza right now.
Don’t worry in time you will get your appetite back–if you keep looking at food blogs you will, trust me.
oh I m drooling looking at all those delicious pizzas. I m a pizza addict. Yummy 🙂
that looks better than delivery and digiorno!
as usual it looks FABULOUS! why are we not neighbors?
Maria, great minds think alike…I made ABin5 pizza today as well…the dough is good!
I wish you were 100%!! Makes me so sad to hear you’re still feeling yucky! Fantastic pizza
that crust looks so professional! lovely looking pizza 🙂
Really hoping you regain your love for cooking again really soon! The ABin5 dough is just so convenient, isn’t it? I’ve made impromptu pizzas for my husband a few times – it’s so quick, it’s great to have the dough on hand for weeknights when you can’t decide what else to make. You end up with something delicious like these!
What a gorgeous pizza! Are you sure you’re not Italian?
Maria this is great! Just last Friday we hosted a baby shower and I made four pizzas using the ABin5 dough. The guests loved it. So easy too, isn’t it?! Love your toppings.
My husband and I ordered some pizza from Papa Johns this weekend. I’d much rather have yours! How fun to interact your guests in the pizza-making process too.
Oh gosh, get better soon!! I love how thick this dough looks. For me, 90% of the joy I find in pizza is in the dough!
I love your big pizza mezza luna!
Great idea to have a pizza party with the ab5 dough.
I have the book and love it! A AB5 pizza party sounds like a plan!
i hope you’re feeling better soon as well, pizza always makes me smile 🙂
Wow! That last picture has me craving pizza!
Ymmers, I LOVE pizza. We threw a make your own pizza party a long time ago and it was a hit. Thanks for reminding me of this great idea.
This pizza is making my mouth water. I have that cook book too-I will have to try this recipe! thanks
OK. I’m going to have to try this now 🙂
Mouthwatering good Marie…am craving pizza at 6 in the morning. Delicious!!
Oh how I love pizza. I’m glad that you’re feeling better, take good care of yourself!
This is so cool because I’m planning a pizza party for late June (don’t ask why so much in the future). I’m glad it was a success.
That pizza looks awesome!
We have been using our dough for pizza quite a bit lately. It is so convenient. I feel like I could do a commercial for their book.
Even though we had pizza today I still would bite into one of those.
Now that’s genius, what a great idea for company!!!
That’s a great idea. We used to make individual pizzas out of English muffins when we were kids. We’d all gather round the table and make a ton of them. So much fun!
Hi Maria,
I really hope you are feeling better soon!
Your pizzas are absolutely gorgeous! What a fun party idea. I always do this with my boys friends and let them make up their own pizzas. I can’t believe I never do it with my friends. They would LOVE it!
Thanks for the enthusiasm for the book and I’m thrilled that you are baking so much from your buckets of dough! 😉
Zoë
Hey, I saw the pizza pic on tastespotting without realizing it was your blog! Nice!
Hope you’re feeling better, Maria!! And as soon as you’re upt to it, I hope you come out to CA so we can go to the Ferry Building together 🙂 This pizza party is a great idea!! I really need to get ABin5. Everyone’s pizzas look great.
yowsa, what a fantastic looking crust! I hope you get your cooking/baking mojo back!
Your pizza looks great – I love the puffiness of the base and (to mind mind) the perfect ratio of topping to base. Yummy!
i really hope you’ll get better soon… in the meantime, those pizzas are so inviting… 🙂
Aw, so sad you still aren’t feeling better! Hopefully this week things will turn around. The party looks like it was so much fun though! Great idea!
So sorry to hear that you have not been well Maria. That sure is five-star pizza – I love the puffiness of the crust, and the toppings sound devine. Get well soon!!
And so now I’m craving pizza…thanks!
What a fantastic party idea!! I’m totally going to have to do it, that book really is amazing, love it!
Such a great way to have a party. Glad you are starting to heal
the best parties are the ones where food is involved and that food can be personalized. love the pizza porn, maria–not much pleases me (food-wise, that is…) more than gooey, melted cheese. 🙂
Terrific looking pizzas! I hope your feeling better soon.
Looks delicious – I love pizza! Great idea for a party – I have to pick up that book.
Looks so wonderful, what a great idea for a dinner party!
That pizza looks great! The artisan bread in 5 is such a great base for all sorts of things, and now we can add pizza to the list!
Now THAT is a party that I want to go to! I hope you are feeling somewhat better … 🙁
Beautiful! I could definitely use a slice, I’m starving!
Maria that looks great. I wish I could have some of that right now…
I love homemade pizza – yours look great and the sauce sounds really good.
Wow! These look terrific. You must have had a great party.
I’m so sorry you’re still feeling sick 🙁
Your pizzas look so delicious! That crust looks like it was made in a brick oven! I think I need to go eat lunch because I’m hungry now 🙂
I’ll take some pizza! Any kind will do!
so much fun!!
That looks incredible!
Your pizza looks fab. Nothing beats homemade pizza.
That crust looks delicious! I love homemade pizza, and wish I had more patience for rolling out the homemade dough – mine always keeps shrinking! Something I’ll have to practice I guess@
Your pizzas looks so good. Hoping you’re back to yourself soon!
YUm!! That looks so good!!
WOw that last pic of pizza with the stringy cheese…. *drool* Great pizza!!!
I just love using this dough for pizza. These pizzas are gorgeous.
How fun! I love making pizza at home, it’s so easy and delicious.
those pizzas look great!
Ooo – that looks doughy and delicious. Lucky friends! Glad you’re starting to feel better too.
I have that book out right here and was reading the recipe for pizza dough. I want to make a white pizza but I think I should just try the basic recipe first.
Do youmix yours by hand or in your stand mixer? I’m thinking to try by hand. I know my food processor is only a 11 cup one and I’m not sure about my Kitchenaid. It’s a tilt head one.
Hope you’re feeling better and that your week is a good one.

oh my god, it sure does sound bad, if you’ve actually lost your joy for cooking and baking and eating! I hope you recover soon!
but then…how can you not with such wonderful food with great people?
Wow! The pizze look amazing!! YUM!
This looks like so much fun! I love the thick crust!
That sounds so fun and looks so delicious!!!!
I really need some homemade pizza now!
Sounds like a fun time! I think I’m having pizza for dinner tomorrow night 🙂
Looks delicious! Just linked to your post from the MyPunchbowl party planning and free invitations blog where I wrote about doing a make-your-own-pizza party.
Love your pizzas, and thanks for the sauce recipe! I have a feeling I’ll end up buying ABin5, but am resisting for now!
Nancy
I haven’t been to the bookstore in forever but that book is STILL on my list!!!! Your party sounds like a ton of fun and when I get this book I will have one like that too 🙂 Hope you’re getting better!
yummy!! I just took back my copy. I did not get a chance to make anything from it. I need to reserve it from the library again.

I have never made ANY kind of homemade dough, but I'm going to take the plunge! Do you mind sharing what kind of stone and pizza peel you use? Also, when you had the pizza party, about how long does each take to cook?
thanks!

I'm trying this today. I think I'll try to shoot it, but I don't think it will be as pretty as your picture!
That pizza looks absolutely wonderful!
Hello Maria,
I found your site through a search for ABin5 that brought up your ABin5 pizza. I vaguely remember visiting a couple years ago when I stumbled upon your summer sauce recipe. Anywho, I’ve got a question about this pizza sauce posted above. In an effort to “get it right” the first time I make this, what size cans are we talking here? In regards to the petite tomatoes and the tomato sauce as well I’m thinking large cans since you were making this for a party, but I’m just not sure. Can you help me please, we are hoping to make pizza later next week and I would love to get going on this homemade sauce. Thanks Maria, good day to ya!
Hi Maria,
Can you tell me what size cans you use for the pizza sauce? The tomatoes and tomato sauce cans are they small or large? How many ounces please?
15 oz tomatoes and 8 oz tomato sauce
F*ckin’ amazing things here. I’m very glad to see your post. Thanks a lot and i am looking forward to contact you. Will you please drop me a mail?
Thanks , I have just been searching for info about this subject for ages and yours is the best I’ve discovered so far. But, what about the bottom line? Are you sure about the source?
