Bacon Wrapped Bratwursts
Updated March 26, 2019
On Saturday we had a tailgating party for the Utah vs. BYU game. We look forward to this rivalry game every year. It is usually at the end of the season, but since both teams are in different conferences this year, it came early. We were ready though! We had some friends over to watch the big game and to enjoy some good eats. Josh was in charge of the grill and made Bacon Wrapped Bratwursts for the meat lovers.
Josh wrapped a piece of bacon around each brat and used a toothpick to hold the bacon in place. He put the brats on soaked skewers so they wouldn’t curl up. He wanted them to fit the buns nicely. So if you don’t want a “curly” brat, use Josh’s tip and skewer the brats before grilling.
Josh grilled the bacon wrapped brats until the brats were cooked and the bacon was slightly crispy. He was salivating while grilling:) He was so proud of his “man food.”
When the brats were done cooking, he placed them in buns with sauteed onions and peppers. He served Bush’s Maple Cured Baked Beans on the side-his favorite. He loves the big, thick chunks of bacon with the hint of sweet maple syrup. The guys were in heaven with this meal! Perfect game day food!
We made sure we had a radio on outside by the grill so everyone could here the pre-game coverage. Then, we all moved inside to cheer on our Utes. We didn’t want our guests to miss any of the action:) Luckily, the Utes pulled out a BIG win. They beat BYU 54-10. GO UTES!
We had a great time at our party and everyone loved Josh’s Bacon Wrapped Brats. Stay tuned for my vegetarian friendly tailgating recipe. We had something for everyone at our party:)
Bacon Wrapped Bratwursts
Ingredients
- 6 bratwursts
- 6 pieces of bacon
- 2 onions sliced
- 2 green peppers cut into strips
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 6 bratwurst buns
Instructions
- 1. Wrap a piece or bacon around each bratwurst. Use 2-3 toothpicks to hold bacon in place. Place a soaked skewer through each bratwurst. This keeps the brat from curling up when cooking.
- 2. Cook bacon wrapped brats on the grill over medium-high heat. Rotate the brats a couple of times while cooking. Grill for about 7-10 minutes or until brats and bacon are cooked all the way through.
- 3. While the brats are cooking, add onion and green pepper in a medium skillet that has been coated with olive oil. Saute until tender over medium high heat.
- 4. Serve bacon wrapped brats in buns with onions and peppers. Serve warm.

My husband was at the game, he played for BYU two years ago, so you can imagine his embarrassment.
I opted to go to the Real Salt Lake game with friends. At least they won! But congrats to your Utes:)
Perfect game day food!
I can’t wait to show these to my husband, I know he’ll want to run out and buy the ingredients to make them asap 🙂

My husband would die of happiness if I made these. Great Tailgating food!
Seeing as I’m a protein junky, this is what we should make together one day 🙂

My husband would be in heaven over this recipe! I’m tempted to run out for Brats tomorrow for this.
Going to throw that down tonight, never made them w/o beer. Thanks.
